Cooking essentials

Please no judgement as I’m trying to do better. I grew up in care so have never really learnt how to cook ( I know this is not an excuse) however I really want to do better for my children then basic, ‘Brocolli pasta’ or ‘breaded chicken and rice’. I want to cook from scratch. I’ve found some simple recipes but I want to know what essentials I need to buy? I haven’t got much money but was going to try b&m tomorrow. I currently have two pans, baking trays and a sieve. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it

That's a great place to start 👌 I'd also recommend a couple of decent knives, chopping boards and a grater and you'll be good to go! Happy cooking! Ps - there's nothing wrong with broccoli pasta every now and then 😋

@Jodie thank you very much and sorry yes you’re right, I realised that sounded a bit snobby of me!

😂 not snobby at all!! Don't worry. Enjoy your new recipes!

@Jodie thank you!!

lots of free recipes online on youtube & tiktok etc! get some pots, knives, chopping boards, whisk, strainer, grater & a mixing bowl. i think that’s all you really need to be fair! over time you can get different sizes / capacities etc. i have a few recipes / ideas if you want to message me i can send them to you! i kinda just go with the flow when cooking & basically have taught myself; the same with baking!

Just a suggestion but ingredients would be cheaper from Asda and Aldi, if you can get them.

I use allrecipes for cooking and choose a few dishes at the start of the week :) they have a lot of users so I rely on the reviews ... my recipes usually go well! It's more a science than an art so if you follow the steps you rarely go wrong

And Ikea for cooking items! Knives, cutting board, spoons, pots (2 sizes ) and a pan
