Has anyone had their first baby before or near due date?!

I have this theory that majority in their 30s are overdue, especially for first baby? And they rarely go into labour spontaneously without sweeps/inductions.... Please someone prove me wrong, as ideally don't wanna go overdue myself but have it in my head. Either the dates are wrong or first babies are stubborn/ our bodies don't go into spontaneous labour as well in our 30s?!?!

can’t say for 30s bcos i’m only 24 🙈 but my first baby was born on his due date, 40 weeks exactly, i was age 20 at the time x

I was 31 when my first baby was born and he was born spontaneously at 39+1. Went into labour at 39 and was supposed to be induced 39+2. Hope this helps x

I had my first at 21 n went into labour n had her same day at 39weeks exactly am currently 39+1 with my second at 22 n he’s still not here 🥰

Had my first age 19 and went over due by 3 days was meant to be induced the day after he was born Had 3 sweeps prior to his birth as well :)

My first was 39+6 x

I was 29 with my first (so almost 30) & my sweet baby boy was born on his due date spontaneously 🩵 Now expecting my second, so let’s see 😂

I was 33 with my first and she was born at 36+6 spontaneous labour. Currently 37+1 with number 2 and no signs yet!

I'm 36 and my little girl was born at 34 + 6 weeks by emergency c section. So not spontaneous but i had also assumed she'd be late because she was my first and so was rather unprepared!

I am in my 30s and my first was born at 37w

Overdue is a weird one because anything between 38 and 42 weeks is normal. EDD is not exact. You’re only overdue if you go over 42 weeks. I’m in my 30’s, spontaneous labour at 40+5 (which is the national average date). No sweeps. No inductions.

I’m 30 and my baby arrived last Friday at 38 weeks +6 spontaneously 😊

I had my first baby at 31 years of age and she came one day before her due date. She came on her own; there were no interventions/sweeps/drips/etc. So it’s definitely possible girl.

My first at 37 was 40+6 and my second at 39 is any day now! I refused to be medically induced (unnatural and painful!!) so I try a lot of alternative methods. Accupunture, massage, sweeps, curb walking, sex, homeopathy

I’m 34 and my waters broke at 38 weeks last week

I had my first at age 27… baby born at 41+2 days following induction

Thanks all, some reassurance here that my theory is wrong hopefully!!

@Francesca I wanted to know more about sweeps... are they not another kind of unnatural way to hurry it along, i just don't want it to trigger a long drawn out labour xx

@Ciara I'll keep this in mind thank you xx

@Sinead I knowww wondering if in yours 20s you're more likely to be on your due date. I have a friend who's got 3 kids and was on time for first 2 in her 20s and late for the last one she had her in 30s ha xx

@Risha why do they try to induce before due date, this is what confuses me xx

I was being induced due to gestational diabetes and being on insulin injections xx

Technically a sweep is a method to get things going but it’s not drugs. A sweep may not do anything or it might start things off a couple of days later. With inductions in hospital they try one way, give it a set time to work, then they try another way, give it time, then they break your waters, then they give you drugs and then if it doesn’t happen they do a c-section. That can be a long drawn out birth as once you are on the induction conveyor belt they don’t stop methods until they have a baby. So keep forcing labour to start. With sweeps it’s more let’s try this and leave it - and it’s done with your midwife. I had 3 sweeps, baby came 40+6 so arguably the sweeps didn’t do anything for me! Make a plan with your midwife that you feel totally comfortable with also consider how you want to give birth. I wanted a water birth so another reason I wanted to avoid induction as that would be hospital bed led.

There are medical reasons for an induction but a lot of the time it’s because you are “overdue”. Overdue means different things in different countries. Do your research and pick the birth plan you want to be supported with. Unfortunately a lot of women are frightened into inductions with stupid statistics and are not in control of their bodies

I’m 31 and went into labour spontaneously at 36+4!

I was 32 ans went into spontaneous labour 4 weeks early
