Constipation

My little boy has been put on aptamil pepti 1 for his milk allergy. We started bottles yesterday around 1pm and he’s very angry and constipated😩 Has anyone else had this and if so how can I help him?🥺

My little one wasn’t constipated but she really sounded it because of trapped wind and would constantly strain. Apparently Pepti 1 is harder for them to get their wind up on it. I used to just constantly do tummy rubs, hold in a squat position, bicycle kicks and then push legs up to tummy, warm bath etc. How old is he?x

Lots of tummy time. If he is weaned then kiwi and things like bone marrow / butter that are fatty

@Joanna he’s 6 weeks today x

@Aimeè Green🍒🪩 ahh has he been since starting the milk at all? If so, true constipation is where the poop is like hard pebbles. A lot of babies around this age lose the poop reflex so they have to use their muscles instead, and some (like mine) can find it hard to coordinate them, which leads to angry straining etc whilst figuring it out. But if it really is hard pebbles etc, the GP can prescribe laculose! Bare in mind because Pepti 1 is so hydrolysed they will poop less anyway as there is less waste x

Agree with Joanna, it’s probably a mix of the new milk and learning to poop himself. It isn’t constipation unless the poop is hard pebbles (usually after a few days) and they should poop less on this formula anyway. Plenty of winding during the feed, warm baths, tummy rubs (clockwise only) and bicycle legs can help a lot. It will take his digestive system time to get used to the new milk unfortunately
