Blood in nappy!!

Hello! For the past 12 days, my little one (5m) has had blood in his nappies. Sometimes in his poo, and sometimes just blood & no poo. We’ve taken him to the hospital 3 times now. They initially said it was an issue with his intestines but an ultrasound showed all clear. His bloods & poo samples are clear but they ruled it out as a ‘bug’. On our 3rd visit, they decided it wasn’t a bug and that it was a milk allergy. He has been on Aptamil since day 1 (aswell as breast milk, to which I have eaten dairy every day - he’s now fully on aptamil) He LOVES his milk and gets so excited when he see’s it. He has NO symptoms that portray a milk allergy; apart from blood in his stool (I must reiterate that he also does ones where it’s JUST blood and no poo). I do not believe this to be a milk allergy. He is not in pain, doesn’t cry, and is incredibly happy & cheeky - he’s also not had a temperature at any point. Further to this, I have checked to see if he has torn his bum to which I can’t see anything and there is no blood when I wipe. The doctor also checked this! I am really stressed & pulling my hair out. They’ve given us this formula to try but my mum gut is absolutely telling me it’s not a milk allergy. I’ve also got open access to go back to hospital for a month! Has anyone had this before? where they’ve had NO symptoms but it’s been a milk allergy? 😥😥😥

My daughter had green and bloody Nappies it was milk allergy then changed to milk and soya

@Laura did she have any other symptoms? Was she in pain when drinking her milk?

No none at all and didn't get diagnosed until 5/6 months x

My son has a dairy allergy at 5m he’s now 7m I cut dairy and soya and no more blood in nappies. He had no other symptoms though x

@Laura oh wow. I’m sorry to ask so many questions - how long was she bleeding for? and was she on the same milk from day one? I’d just be so surprised if he had an allergy and it came about now considering he’s been on it for ages!!🥺

She went straight onto nutramigen x

She was having them on and off from around 8 weeks and the green Nappies they just said was viral etc then the blood started and that went on for months but the more frequent they got the gp then gave the milk, but the health visitor was saying it wasn't because she gained weight she was happy healthy other than the Nappies but then when I started weaning and then we moved to soya milk she was fine with soya until she drank a big amount then started reacting to that too so had to be dairy and soya free, then we tried the milk ladder failed at step one a few times and then got to around 2years and managed to get passed it and no issues since xx

My 5mo has been put on Alfamino for a milk allergy. He was breast fed alongside x1 bottle of formula but at 4mo he wasn't gaining weight well (dropping in centile) and had 1 nappy with bloody mucus. He has always been very content and happy and never shown signs of discomfort. Only other sign other than low weight gain and blood was that most of his nappy changes were pooey ones. Since putting him on an allergen milk ge is pooping less frequently and gaining weight well. So could well be a milk allergy for your LO, even with him being happy and not showing any other symptoms

We never had blood in poo but the symptoms we had were khaki green sludgy nappy that smelt like rotten eggs. Problems feeding like arching back making strange noises. Straining for every bit of wind and poo to the point of crying. Lots of hiccups and sneezing. Undigested milk in poo. Some mucus but very little. He was unhappy. We never got blood but someone I know breastfed and had no symptoms at all except blood in nappy and she had to remove dairy from diet then re introduce. We're on nutramigen which doesn't thrill me due to the ingredients but my milk just never came in sadly.

I get what your saying about being shocked as its delayed but after 30 odd years of loving potato, beef, sweetcorn and citrus my body decided to just develop an intolerance to them. I know not the same as CMPA but I think these things generally can develop any age.

Thanks everyone. I tried the Althera formula yesterday and he projectile vomited. He screamed in pain, kept arching his back, spitting it out and all sorts. These are the symptoms I’d expect him to have if he had the allergy to his aptamil 😂
