Bed sharing

I’ve been looking into safe bedsharing for when baby comes. Is anyone else considering it or are most people not,

We currently got a next to me cot but I am assuming/hoping we would naturally bedshare eventually. Its our first so keeping all options open ofc

We coslept with our first out of necessity - he slept better in with us, although not sure how it made any difference from being in his next to me, and I just wouldn’t have survived the newborn days without some sort of sleep.

I always just assumed my baby would go in the next to me but oh my god how wrong was I. Could literally never put her down! We bed shared for years and I wish I'd known I might need to as I felt like I was doing something wrong not being able to put her down in a cot. Some babies like to be close, and the safe sleep 7 helped us cosleep safely for as long as she needed to. As a breastfeeding mama I absolutely loved it - so convenient and reassuring. Not for everyone but I think definitely a great idea to read up before birth so you're prepared x

I also planned to not co-sleep with my first but she slept terribly - never slept more than 45min to an hour at a time and needed to be held for a least 5 mins after each feed before you could transfer her back to the cot without her waking. I was exhausted and fell asleep with her a couple of times in unsafe positions, so at about 3 months we started cosleeping (following the guidance) as it seemed safer than what I was trying to do. We moved her to her own room at just before 6 months and haven’t coslept since, but for the early months it was completely unplanned but necessary. I’d recommend keeping an open mind. Some babies sleep great in a next to me, some don’t. And if you have one that doesn’t it might be worth considering.

We didn’t with our first but he was a good sleeper in his next to me crib and was a happy camper being moved in to his own room from 6 months and slept even better in there ( me and partner both snore so who can blame him 🤣) I plan on using the next to me crib again this time, but I will never say never to co sleeping because that’s not realistic in motherhood you do what you gotta do 😅
