Newborn feeding

Hi mums. 🥰 I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant and trying to prepare myself for newborn. I’d love to be able to breast feed but also want to prepare incase it’s not working out. What should I bring to hospital for feeding and for the weeks after? Has anyone recommendation for a newborn milk or can I mix? I’ve a breastfeeding class coming up but would love to get some opinions here xx thank you

Best way to try to ensure you can breastfeed is to limit or omit birth interventions as they interupt the hormones etc. Also lots of skin to skin post birth and breastfeeding in the golden hour after birth. All you can do is your best and try. It was a hard journey for ua but I breastfeeding mine for just over 2 yrs. And never gave formula etc. Just learn lots about it and be prepared to have your boobs out for the longest time for them and feed on demand. Then your body will adapt and make what they need etc. Breastmilk is so cool it even has protective properties and antibodies etc in it for your baby based on what they need due to biofeedback between you and baby when you breast feed. Just have some pure lanolin in your bag incase you need it on your nipples at any point And if you have triuble get baby assessed for tongue and lip ties as they significantly impact feeding. That was our experience.

@Kirsty thank you! I may be induced or c section early as they may be putting me on insulin for gestational diabetes so in that case I’ll probably have interventions, which I really didn’t want! So this is why I may need some substitute for breast milk if it doesn’t work out and I can mix, hopefully I’ll be able to but just incase!

Sounds really stressful, love. I absolutely recommend getting a doula to help you navigate and advocate for you etc. If you end up having to do formula make sure its a certified organic one. What country are you in?
