Both are correct :) I pump and sometimes I can only get 1-2oz if that even though my boobs feel full but then little one will nurse and she’s swallowing consistently and I can see the milk dribbling out of her mouth, whereas just previously I wasn’t getting a drop out of my pump. Also what Nicole said above in terms of supply x
No advice — but you’re not alone. I’ve also stopped pumping because it’s just too much. And because it’s frustrating to just get an ounce or two after wasting all the time to pump and clean everything.
Nothing much more to add than the others. When my son nurses, I can feel my let down within a couple minutes and he’s done eating in like 5 minutes. However, when I pump it could take me like 20 mins before my let down happens and I just can’t get as much as he gets when nursing
No, pumping is not accurate to gauge milk supply. Baby is much better at getting milk from the breast than any pump. But as the others said, pumping helps boost your supply. Who has told you/what has made you think that you have a low supply?
I also hated/stopped pumping early on with my first. I then started again at 9 months when I returned to work. I used two different pumps (work had a professional one) and I found the quantity I pumped really varied between the two machines. I struggled with flange sizes and could never get the work one to work very well even though it was in theory a better machine.
Baby can get more than a pump cos having them close releases oxytocin and increases milk production. Any form of stimulating production (pumping or feeding) will increase supply because it's supply and demand. The more you remove the more it creates. How do you know for a fact you have low supply? Are you feeding baby directly?
@Sophie @Natalie so baby is only 2 months but since the beginning he has screamed into my boob out of frustration,😔😣 Nowadays it will be after 10 minutes or so and if I try to hand express to confirm-nothing comes out. Though same thing happened just now and I hand expressed.Milk was coming out. Why does he scream? I don't get it When pumping regularly only once did 50ml come out. The rest 20-30 if that
The best way to increase supply is to latch baby often.
Pumping on top of nursing can cause your body to produce more milk as you’re essentially telling your body that your baby needs more(as in all that they eat, plus what you are pumping). However babies tend to more effectively remove milk than a pump.
