After their 2nd birthday is when they usually start speaking
@Rachel my friends baby started saying words around a year old. Mine on the other hand is almost 19 months and still nothing.
At 15 months, my son could say around 15 words (I actually wrote them down to see how many lol and I forgot to do it at 16 months to see how many new ones he learnt)
She’s still really young and the hv wont care about it until 2.7/3. Both my kids were speech delayed.
My son didn’t say any words at all. I’d say at 18 months he started saying some words but it picked up as soon as he turned 2. Don’t worry it’ll happen x
My son is 2 and only says muma and dadee , he’s been referred to speech and language by his health visitor
Same! My son is 14 months though, just here for the comments 😊 he is walking though 👏🏽
My eldest was almost 3 when he started putting together sentences of 5 or more words. He had reoccurring tonsillitis & we were living through COVID, so maybe that had something to do with it, but he's just a thinker & always stands back to observe everything first. He is absolutely fine now, although always more reserved than others still 🤷🏼♀️ I'd speak to your Health Visitor if you're worried. Good luck! x
22 months here and only says mama out of context.. he won’t try and repeat any words at all
Mine only started saying mama at 16 months (but said papa earlier). She could say about 9 words at 16 months but probably not many at 15 months. But then it rapidly ramped up - speaking 3-4 word sentences at around 2. I wouldn’t worry. There was a real range at her nursery and among her friends, a couple were more advanced that she was, but a lot were slower to speak than she was.
I put mine in speech therapy at 17months for not saying anything at all
At 2 and a half my son started speaking. At 24 months he had 10 words. He just turned 3 and can speak in 5 words sentences now 🙏🏻
@Jade did it help
My daughter didn’t make a lot of sounds at 15 months (she never really babbled, only had about 5 words) but she communicated with makaton signs and pointing. At her 1 year review, the health visitor said to come back if she wasn’t talking or babbling by 18 months. But around 16 months, her talking really developed, it felt like it all came on overnight! She’s nearly 2 and still not as vocal as some of her friends, but she’s always been more of a walker/jumper/climber/total chaos demon so I think speech is just not her priority! I think signing really helped her for that reason, she still uses her signs quite a bit.

@Rhiannon sounds abit my Lo she started walking at 9months and has been climbing jumping running ever since she points and indicates guess their too busy to talk yet 😂
My son said nothing till he turned 2 x
Just had our first speech therapy session this morning! Great tips. Speak like a caveman. When your kid picks up a cup or whatever, say the name of the item. So "cup, up" and do that for everything. Kid runs say "run" like say their actions back to them as they do them. Like pointing outside say "outside" and then what they may be pointing at about 5 seconds later "car"
My sons just turned 3, he says lots of single words but doesn't put them into sentences, and does alot of copying, but mostly babbles still, he's just started speech and language therapy. Going to nursery has helped him alot too
Absolutely helped. By 6 months she was saying 2 word phrases on her own without any prompting. And now starting 3 word phrases too. I think it was confidence issue and not enough daily repetition. Once we started praising her every attempt to make sounds and words, things took off. Also changing therapist. The first one didn't mesh with my child's personality. Next one was perfect.
Following my son is also 15 mo and he say very few like dada mama hi or hello when he simulates anything like a phone
