I had this for around 3/4 days after birth, managed it with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Midwife on discharge told me about it and said to manage with regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, mine were really quite painful and I did take codein a few times too. If I remember right it’s your uterus contracting back to normal size, they say the pain can be worse the more pregnancies you’ve had x
@Elisha is that harmless ? X
@Corelle no am not breastfeeding
Is what harmless?? X
@Elisha the contractions ?
Ohh cause they say breastfeeding can make it a little more painful, but as pervious person said it’s mostly likely to be your uterus getting back to shape. I would see how you get on and if anything mention it to the health visitor.
Yeah, it’s just your uterus going back to normal size. If the pain becomes to intense or lasts for long periods of time there’s no harm in mentioning it to the visiting midwife x
Afterpains are aparently worse which each baby. I had none with my first but this one they have been really painful, especially when triggered by breastfeeding but I assume it would be the same even if you aren’t! My midwife mentioned some woman used gas and air to get through them!
The after pains get worse with more babies - I'm on my 4th and I didn't have any with my first. My second was bad my 3rd was awful - but they didnt last long just a day or 2. It's everything contracting back down i think xx
Are you breastfeeding?? This can be normal though as your body is now dealing with trying to get back to normal
