Why exactly does sex “induce” labor?

Most of us have heard that sex in the 3rd trimester can help our bodies prepare for labor but how? Like is it the sex that’s important or is this only effective if one of us orgasms?

It’s kinda all of your answers and also penetrative sex essentially does what a membrane sweep does.

semen (specifically prostaglandin in semen) softens the cervix

All of the above

I think a man started this rumour… it’s never worked for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

No idea, all I know is I was 4 days past my due date, my hub and I got busy and when I got out of bed 30 mins later my water broke! Probably coincidence to be honest but maybe not 🤷‍♀️

Semen softens the cervix which is helpful, however, the most important part is that you (the pregnant person) has an orgasm!

I am getting more and more afraid of having sex in the 3rd trimester- that mucus (peices of the plug?) is coming out every time and it makes me so nervous. Is that normal?
