Reading time

How or when do you have time to read with a toddler? I have a 22 month old that i have to constantly entertain. She will sit and read with me sometimes but not long enough. Any tips?

Audiobooks, I listen while I clean and during nap time

I go up to bed early and read for an hour before I go to sleep

I basically gave up reading with my 1st ‘09, he’s always HATED being read to too, broke my heart bc I was always a big reader & thought my kids would be automatically interested, but even at a few months he’d cry & flail. About 2yo I was able to read all HP’s aloud to a room full of almost 2yo I watched & got excited he let me, it was short lived. Idk how but he surprised me in K by knowing how to read & write, loved it, even though he never allowed me to. 2nd ‘21 kid has been similar, but started letting me read to him around his 3rd bday. This time around I decided to give audio & ebooks another chance, I can consume a lot of audio content while I do other things & he independently plays, or while we’re playing chase, watching shows, playing around the yard or just whenever he’s less talkative or asleep, then I do ebooks & physical when he’s asleep or just stick to books he’ll enjoy too, we even got him a Tonie box so he could enjoy audio too. I have Sony XM4🎧 so tap play & pause.

I do audiobooks while I'm cooking or cleaning, or while working. It's the only way I've been able to, but I just got a few physical books from a friend, so I'm going to try reading after my toddler goes to bed.

Naptime or bedtime. There are very few audiobooks that I listen to but I’ve read the books first and am able to listen to the audio as background noise. Idk why I just can’t focus with audio only. I don’t get much reading done but that’s just the season of life I’m in right now. I’ve been reading Bride for two weeks now 😭

Late at night. Sometimes with my morning coffee. It's hard finding time for just about anything with a toddler. 😭

As much as I love reading the physical book, audiobooks have been a huge help!

I listen to audiobooks and I read whatever I wanted to to the kids when they were younger, they didn't care if it was good night moon or if it was the gods of jade and shadow, they were too young to get most of it ( obviously some books I didn't read) but they just loved going to sleep hearing me read anything. Ow that they're older both of my kids love books and listen to audiobooks to go to sleep to

@Sarah 🎀 it took me some work to get the hang of audiobooks. If you’re interested in trying them again I recommend getting yourself situated as if you are about to read a physical book, but sit back with your eyes closed and imagine each word spoken are words that you are reading with your eyes. I’m kinda a night owl, so I did this when everyone else was in bed late at night and I was sitting on MY back porch, which is my favorite place to relax, then I practiced reading inside my head. I got used to a podcast 1st which made the transition a bit easier, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I have to pause & play a lot but my 🎧are touch & have an auto voice pause, so they stop playing when I talk to anyone around me, so I can do more activities & keep consuming content, since now my brain has figured out how to put those written words in my head when listening to audiobooks. I consumed 350 books last year w/o ignoring my family, my 🎧 r an accessory these days. 😂
