Did anyone NOT take any prenatal vitamins when pregnant? And was your baby healthy?

I couldn’t take any due to circumstances and now im 32weeks and I’m stressed my baby will have birth defects or other issues!

I only took folic acid up until week 12. After that I didn't take any vitamins. Partly because they were so big I struggle with taking tablets 😂 My little boy was a healthy 8lbs 2oz and perfect 🩵

Talk to your GP and see what you should take the last few weeks. Folic Acid is incredibly important they might prescribe you something - try not to worry though :)

I only took folic acid and vitamin d. Baby boy all healthy

If your baby was to have birth defects they would have picked it up on scans by now and you can also get vitamins folic acid via foods, so that also contributes to it also.

I only ever take folic acid and then what ever vitamin that I am deficient in based on my blood work throughout my pregnancy. I took prenatal vitamins for a few weeks in my first pregnancy only for my first trimester and they made me so sick due to giving me far too much iron! Stopped taking them and felt so much better. Refused to take them for my second and third pregnancy and all three of my babies are healthy and perfect! had no issues as newborns and all their tests came back perfect.

I didn’t take anything past 10 weeks because it was pointless as I was so sick my entire pregnancy. When my bloods were checked by my midwife late into my pregnancy my folic acid level was where it should be even without the tablets. And LO is perfectly normal. But I would speak to your midwife about any concerns.

I took them until 12 weeks and stopped because they were making me feel SO sick (on top of the all day nausea I was already having).. my baby was born at 40 weeks, completely healthy! Talk to your provider about it and weigh the pros and cons :)

Thank you so much everyone for your responses! It’s really reassuring. I didn’t even take any even in my first trimester due to circumstances at the time

I only took folic acid. No issues.

I took them until 12 weeks but a lot of the time I forgot them. Baby is perfectly healthy.

The risk of birth defects is very small even without taking any vitamins or anything. The supplements just reduce the risk further (not eliminate it)

I only took the pregncare (folic acid and omega 3) during the first trimester, I feel extreme nauseas and vomit bc if the supplements so my midwife said I don’t have to take anymore as folic acid is only important int he first trimester, after that it’s not doing much. But I was advised to take vit D. I do when i remember sometimes. My sister didn’t take a single prenatal vitamins and the baby is very healthy, however her health deteriorated very much.

I never took them with any of my 4 pregnancies and all 4 babies are fine

You should be fine. At 32 weeks they would have picked up something on the scan by now. I think you have 12 week scan and then one at 20 weeks or something, as theyre considered critical. I think the prenatal vitamins are more for the mama, as the baby will take whatever it needs from you leaving you depleted. But folic acid is the important one, which should have been taken from the very beginning, but if there were any problems with that they may have seen on the scans. Have you spoken to your midwife about it? I think it might be a good idea for reassurance or any alternative advice she would recommend.

I never took any with my first because I would always throw them up or spit them out right away

With my second I am not worried about it. I eat my prenatal gummies only on a good day which is like one time a week

I’m allergic to an ingredient that most prenatals have so I don’t take those

With my first I was told not to worry because I was getting all my vitamins and minerals from actual fooods.

I never took anything and my son is fine

i totally get the stress, but honestly, i know a few people who didn't take prenatals and their babies turned out just fine, so try not to worry too much! this is what the 'Heal Baby Care App' mentioned… hope it helps! "It's understandable to feel stressed about this situation. Many women have had healthy pregnancies without taking prenatal vitamins, but it's generally recommended to ensure proper nutrition for both mother and baby. Focus on maintaining a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients, such as folic acid, iron, and calcium, which are crucial during pregnancy. If you're concerned about your baby's health, consider discussing your situation with a healthcare provider who can provide personalized guidance and reassurance. Have you been able to maintain a balanced diet during your pregnancy?
