Will it be like this forever?

Hi 👋🏽 my little boy is 4 months and has been on aptamil pepti 1 for the last 4 weeks. He seems to be MUCH better than before (he used to be rigid with pain during feeds and really unsettled in himself) I am thinking of starting weaning at 5 months but worried his diet will need to be altered now. Does this mean he will need soya milk/lacto free? I'm really confused

You will need to alter to start at least…. You can try milk trials and the milk ladder as he progresses with weaning. Some children out grow the allergy (my little girl did)

I was told to try the dairy free milk for a month then go back on to normal milk to see if it deffo is an allergy? My wee girl is only 3 weeks

For a dairy allergy, lacto free options aren’t suitable, it does need to be fully dairy free options like soya, oat, coconut etc. when using milks, creams, yogurt, cheeses in your weaning. You just need to read the ingredients on everything to check there isn’t milk listed in the ingredients.

You would use dairy free alternatives in cooking or better atm I would say to use the formula he is now on when needed in cooking e.g a little to help mash up/loosen up a vegetable puree etc. It isn't advised to start the milk ladder until 9 months. Guidance now does strongly suggest 6 months to begin solids though, not 5.
