Reflux?

How to tell the difference between a baby with reflux versus once in a while regurgitation? My baby is 5 weeks and a couple times a week will forcefully projectile spit up what appears to be the whole feed/several ounces. Occasionally he’s done it twice in one day, and other times go several days with no spit up at all. He isn’t colic, doesn’t ever cry/seem in pain, and is gaining weight really well according to the Dr. So is it likely we were just over feeding him in the times he had the forceful regurgitation or is that automatically considered reflux?

Is he breastfed or formula fed?

@Elesha lactose free formula

My baby spits up too but he's breastfed. He never projectile pukes but we have lots of colic and also he sticks his tongue out like he tasted something bad and I often hear him swallowing it back down and fighting to keep it down. He is also gaining well though so I wondered if he was "normal" spit up and not reflux. Babies just have underdeveloped esophagus so I bet if there's no pain and it's one puke and done it's not reflux.

@Elesha that was kind of my thought too. He’s a very happy content baby, never fussy, so I’m assuming it’s just an over feeding/eating too fast case and not “real” reflux..

Take a break between oz to burp him and rub his belly clockwise for a few minutes

@Star yes we do this already! He’s a good burper!
