Build up to my c section!

Morning ladies, I received my date for my elective caesarean section yesterday, and I’m due to go in 7am on the 17th! Super exciting! I’m basically just looking for any tips/tricks you found really helpful towards the build up/during/after the surgery? Things like how you prepared yourself, how you managed nerves (before and during the procedure), and aftercare. I’m willing to take on any advice to get me through this as I am quite nervous! I’m also wondering a couple of other things; 1. Do I shave before my appointment? And 2. (Prepare for a laugh) I’m super scared of 💩 myself during the procedure… 😂 is that a thing? Does it happen? All I can seem to think is “you have no feeling, so how can you stop yourself from 💩?!” Anyway ladies any and all advice welcome and very much appreciated! It’s my first ever baby so therefore my first ever c-section! I also have a cord tie, which id rather use instead of a clip, is that just something I ask babies dad to give them before they deliver baby? 👶🏻 thanks everyone! 🤍

1 - am personally shaving (just bikini line) as the idea of someone else shaving me makes me want to die haha 2 - I’ve not heard of pooing during a C-section (definitely yes if pushing baby out as everything is coming out haha)

Not recommended to shave for 48 hours at least before as can help introduce infection - some hospitals ask for up to a week. Because you’re fasting the chances of poop are very unlikely. And even if you did you’d not know. They’d just sort you out. Give them the clip when you enter theatre and make sure to mention to your surgeon before hand so they know your wishes. X

My midwife told me to get a wax before because when they do the dressing the hair will grow back and will be so painful to pull off the hair once healed

I was told to shave the night before! I think it really differs hospital to hospital! You will find out at your pre - op a few days before hand. Mine was a week ago and my section is this Friday! 🙂 Pooping wasn’t even on my mind, but not it is hahahah omg didn’t even think about that! Xx

After your c section when they get you to stand up and walk I really recommend standing with a straight posture rather than leaning over even if it hurts. I’m pretty confident that it aided my mobility and healing in the long run.

@Naomi ok cool! I planned to shave, but googled it and read something that says don’t shave for at least 3 days before your section or something as it can increase the risk of infection? Oh that’s reassuring! Heard of natural births and pooing, but didn’t know if it was still a thing with a section 😂 xx

@Ayesha amazing! Thankyou! I’ll mention it on my pre op appointment to see what they advise! That’s great! How long is it you usually fast for again? Cool, Thankyou so much, I’ll ensure I do this! Xx

@Andrea Haas makes sense! Thankyou! Xx

@Bonnie ok cool! I’ll definitely make sure to find out! My pre op appointment is two days before so on the Tuesday! Thankyou so much! Ahhh so exciting! Hope all goes smoothly for you! Hahahah tell me about it, I’ve thought of every outcome possible 😂 xxx

@Amy heard this from my mum! She said “try and stand up as straight as possible to prevent back ache too” so will give it my best shot! Thankyou! Xx

@Liv absolutely! I’m so glad i did. I had abit of a mental block because you feel like your scar might rip if you stand up straight but it won’t! And it’ll be absolutely worth it x

@Amy Thankyou lovely! 🥰 xx
