Reflux

So baby has had vomitting since a few weeks old, mentioned to Gp who didn't wanna look into it at the time as baby was also on antibiotics and said that can cause vomitting. Vomitting has continued baby is now 5.5 months, health visitors have said no issues with weight so it's ok. However I now feel I'm at my wits end with it, I've been trying really hard with tummy time and practice sitting due to him being almost 6 months and the constant sickness is making it hard to do these things and I really don't want him to be delayed in these milestones. Anyone in similar situation?

Yup! I've just been honest with the HV and said he's not been getting much tummy time, and isn't even trying to roll yet, and I'm ok with it. He'll catch up later, in his own time. Just means I have longer to baby proof the house lol!

It’s common for children with reflux to slightly delayed in milestones sadly. My son has been puking since a few weeks old too, very severe reflux where it affected his weight for a period. There can be reasons behind reflux such as allergies, oral ties etc or the digestive system can be very underdeveloped which takes time to improve. As bad as it is, just persevere through the sick for tummy time etc x

Do you mean projectile vomiting being sick or just curdled milk from not having digested it?

@Dani he gets both to be honest

My little boy is the same, 4.5 months. They say to leave atleast 40 mins after a feed but I can be 2 hours after a feed and still get spit up! The amount of bibs and even outfit changes drives me crazy but I think I’m just getting used to it now. I wouldn’t give up on tummy time though because it will strengthen the oesophagus and tummy muscles which will eventually control the regurgitation xx

@Chloe the GP has prescribed gaviscon today so will see if it does anything. I will persevere with tummy time etc I just feel I'm doing more harm than good when he's on his belly with sick pouring everywhere :( so horrible for him x

@Chloe check out ‘Mum2Mum’ bibs on Amazon- pricey at £19 for 3, but they are life changing with a reflux baby! My son was sicking 40+ times a day and going through 15 bibs a day & several outfits. Since getting them, I use max 2 bibs- most days 1 and rarely have to do a full outfit change! They were designed by a mum with reflux & hold 1/2 cup of fluid! Xx

Honestly, I just do tummy time anyways. I’ll pop a muslin under her and sometimes she’ll just be in a nappy. She’s a happy spitter, so not in any pain so we crack on with floor time. She normally spits up the entire period between bottles that we would never get the chance otherwise 🙈
