Breastfeeding frequency?

I've read a lot of posts about BF babies still feeding a lot, but I'm worried we are too far opposite- my 10mo LB is barely feeding from me. I feel like he's self weaning but I'm worried if he doesn't want to feed off me, should I give him formula so I know he's definitely still having milk? He loves his solids and is eating really well and putting good weight on. I know this must be the natural course of things but we aren't at 12 months yet and I don't think he would be bothered if I stopped feeding him now. For context he sleeps through and doesn't feed off me in the night, and he has formula before bed which has always been his routine to have one before he goes to sleep I'm worried if I just stop attempting to BF him anymore and give him formula in the day (if he will take it, he might be equally disinterested) then that really is the end of our BF journey and I thought we would go longer than 12 months. Any BF mums similar?

Do you bf before or after food? Maybe try before food so he is more hungry? Mine always is very keen for boob firstt thing in the morning when his tummy is emptiest

I'm no expert but sounds to me like he's naturally weaning onto food and that's all good. You can always ring HV and ask them before changing anything? X

@Kerry I've tried this but he just pulls on and off and wriggles around. Its like he just can't be bothered/too distracted but this is every feed no matter what time of day/before food etc

@Jas I asked them and they said it was normal but I feel like they say most things are normal :/ they said he was good weight and healthy so maybe I need to stop stressin

Hmm how about change position? Have you tried the side lying position in the bed so there are less distractions...that's all I can think of

My baby’s biggest feeds are both first thing in the morning, and last thing before bed. Could it be because your baby is having formula before bed, that’s largely replacing the breastmilk? Especially as it takes longer to digest, he might not need as much in the morning? I’m just guessing with that though. Instead of speaking to a health visitor, I’d recommend speaking to an infant feeding support worker if possible. They’re usually available at local family hubs. Or contact a national breastfeeding support network?

My LB has started to do this and he also has always had a formula and boob at bedtime but always just breastfed during day .. I do Think he has started to do better with his solids in recent weeks (I'm picking less food off the floor ) but I still don't think he's eating enough to be refusing milk so i get how you feel as it is a little worrying and also sad because I'm personally nowhere near ready to stop nursing 😖 he does well with his 2 morning boobs which is first thing and about an hr after breakfast but anything after that can be hit and miss and there's the odd occasion where he doesn't even want his bedtime bottle...does your little one drink plenty of water during day aswell ? I'd say if nappies are all normal 1s and 2s and hes putting good weight on like you say not to worry probably fine and it's all normal as sad as it is if they're ready then they are ready.
