First Words

Anyone else’s baby saying little words with meaning yet? And any of you getting a mama?? She reacts to her dad, points to him, singles him out in photos etc and says “dada” sometimes “daddy” She recognises that cats are cats so she says cat. Also sometimes the dog but only ever to animals does she say cat. And the worst (and most impressive) is she LOVES stitch. And will say stitch when she sees him even if it’s in the small print on a shirt or in the distance. And not a single mama in sight 😭 I’m impressed and frustrated she can say all these words with purpose and understand them and yet the closest I get to a mama is she makes a “mmm” sound when she’s sad or crying 😂

I caught my little girl saying Mum on camera the first time she said it - she hasn't repeated it since 😩😂 We just have Dad on repeat alllllll day everyyyyy day xxx

@Rosie I think I’d be less upset if she didn’t do dada/daddy as well and it was just cat and stitch 😂 It’s just dada dada dada! I recently got told most babies say mama super late because we’re always saying things like “daddy will be home soon” or like “oh look it’s dada” but people don’t say mummy as much 😮‍💨x

Just mama and dada over here so far

I got Mama at 6 months ❤️ he says it when he's sleepy or wants a bottle 🥰

Just babbles for me still, no proper words just yet

No words. Just alot of random shouting. Sometimes abit of babble. But not much

@Francheska that's very true! xxx

Just babbling for me. It's mainly dadadada. He's starting to repeat what I say now though so if I say da he'll say da, or if I screech, he'll screech. It's VERY early for first words at 9/10 months. It's more common towards the 12 month mark.

Just babbling dada, but not with any context yet. He said "Mama" once a couple of days ago clear as day without any encouragement. I was feeding him and turned to say something to my partner and then the "Mama" came out as if he was trying to get my attention back. But he hasn't said it since, not even as a babble😂

@Sophie I thought it was early too! Hut HV confirmed she clearly understands and is using the words to communicate so would class them as first words but said it’s unlikely we’ll get much more for a bit since she’s now focusing on trying to walk 🥲 itll be her second birthday before I get mama lol

No words over here yet

No mama here but we have hiya, bye bye and dada 🙈 x

Wow please share us tips on how your girl learned so fast, do you talk to her regularly? My boy isn’t interested in saying words, starts to understand up and down, to come when called… no clap no bye lol 😂 just dada, kaka, babaaaa .

@Raccoon-Cant See Waves not really much to share tbh! I just have always spoken to her. I narrate basically everything we do and emphasise who we are as parents, what the pets are and their names etc! When she started making more da ba etc sounds around 4minths I would emphasise the mouth movements and the sounds to her and I always try to just talk to her normally as if I’m just having a convo with another adult :)

Mostly just babbling here. I thought she said “book” a few times a couple of weeks ago but not heard it since, and yesterday I thought she said “bye bye” but can’t get her to repeat it. No “mama” or “dada” specific yet, but lots of “dadadada” and the odd “mamama”. My first was an early talker but she was closer to 1.

Our little boy can say ‘iya’ (more of a babble) mama and dada xx

My 10month old can say “no” “dada” “mama” “Nana” “Bampa” “baba” “bye bye” “duck”

My baby said dada first and she doesn’t have a dada 😂 I think it’s just an easy consonant sound for them to say

My LG’s first word was olá (hello in Portuguese). She can also say mama, papa (Portuguese for dad), dada, vóvó (grandma in Portuguese) and if I sing that chorus “EE I EE I OH” from old McDonald had a farm, she repeats that bit

My little girl only shouts mama when she’s upset or crying. Any other time is dada 😅🤣
