Sometimes they struggle to latch when your boobs are engorged, you could try hand expressing until they’re softer and then try to get her to latch! The only problem with pumping is you could increase your supply which you might not want at this stage, but if you hand express you have more control over how much you express. You can still store hand expressed milk for later But I pumped at that stage and never had problem with oversupply and it helped build a freezer supply so it’s all personal choice!
Mine were really engorged the first few days. I found it best to hand express for a couple of minutes before a feed just to reduce the swelling a little bit and use cold compress in between feeds
Hand express a little even a few drops and that should allow your baby to latch. Good luck!
Does she have a tongue tie? Mine was the same and she had the most severe TT the midwife’s ever seen. Once it was cut she was loads better
I would also say hand express a bit before a feed because babies thqt small don't tend to latch as well to hard engorged boobies x
Hand express or use a milk collector before you latch for a few minutes so your breast isn’t as solid and engorged and see if it helps her latch if not look into seeing if she has a tongue or lip tie my lo had a lip tie and I had no idea until now that she got her teeth I realized that was possibly why we couldn’t get a good latch
Ignore anything about pumping hindering latch or milk production, just do whatever you need to stay sane and feed your girl. When you’re in the trenches the only thing that matters is you feeling as good as you can and that your baby is fed x
@Marissa I managed to pump it was pouring out of me :( got 5oz. She’s been able to latch and have from me now I’ve helped the engorgement down. And now I have freezer stock! X x
Pump to stop engorgement and feed her your milk from a bottle till your boobs settle but still try and latch her every so often until you establish a good latch! X
