Speech

So , my lil one is 2years 8 months old , and started nursery when he was 2 years old. After 3 months, they told me about that he is not speaking as other kids. So I started working on him. Now he says a lot of words , can make sentences but have to ask him to say. For example, if he gets hurt , and he comes to me , I ask him " what do we say " and then he will say " I got boo boo " . Sometimes I do signs so he can make sentence. And let's say if he need water/ sleep. I have to remind him to make sentence like I want water , I want to sleep . Can anyone help me , how can I help him to make sentences on his own or initiate conversation on his own . TIA
