Sleep training

Hi all! I have a few questions re sleep training. If your baby “sleeps through”- is it because you did some form of sleep training or just luck? Secondly, if you are to sleep train a baby- does this mean pram/ car naps etc become abit of a problem. For example- if we started sleep training- then went to centreparcs for a long weekend with family, is there then a need to be consistent in terms of putting your baby in the cot to nap? Any advice welcome and appreciated! Went I first started putting her in her cot for naps- I used huckleberry sweet spot and it was perfect. Then things went abit downhill so looking to get abit of consistency back in some form!

No you should never try to “train” sleeping through specifically just happens when it happens really some babies just do get hungry in the night or need re settling until at least a year. I think too many people boast babies sleeping through and it makes us with babies that don’t feel like it’s not normal that ours wake - it is Sleep training overall is great though if done gently because it teaches self settling which ultimately can help some wake ups indirectly as sometimes if they wake up and it wasn’t for a feed they might get better at being able to put themselves back to sleep. In terms of once you’ve nailed it you can continue to pram/car seat nap it’s fine ☺️. Whilst you’re trying to though it’s best to do it whilst you’ve not got major plans just to get the habits formed well first I’d say at least a week of consistency The best best sleep train videos are @ahealthvisitor on tiktok she’s a health visitor and really knows everything. She explains it so easily

I started to notice my baby would wake at the same time each night almost like a habit, I started to settle before feeding and it worked a few times and then we had a few days where a feed was the only way for him to go back to sleep. He then started to sleep later and later and now goes from 8:30pm until 7am. Every baby is different, find what works for your little one. It could be a rock in your arms may be needed to settle. I also tried a hand on his tummy with a little patting or side to side movement which seemed to help if I caught him at the right stage of waking. My little one doesn’t use his cot during the day as we have a cozy mat downstairs which I still use and he’s 7 months. For me this was the best option as he starts nursery soon and the mat we have is similar to what they use.

Sleeping through gets boasted about too much it gets called the new norma. My son slept through the night since he was 7 weeks old he's 3 next month. My daughter is completely different, but she only wakes once. She goes down at 8pm every night wakes up between 1 and 2am for a bottle and then wakes up around 7-8am. From 6 weeks old she was sleeping through and then when she hit around 5 months old thats when she started waking again but I even think once is good. I haven't slept trained either. I've been putting her down for naps in her pram and it's been so hard she takes a while to settle but I want to change this, when I'm gonna be home she's going to go down for naps in bed..
