Any tips for cracked nipples

My nipples are cracked and bleeding, I don’t know what to do. Baby is a week old and only lost 1/2 oz when weighed so I know I’m feeding properly, he is tongue tied but midwife said 6 week wait or £250 private. I’ve cried so much as all I want to do is feed him but it hurts so much. Any tips would be appreciated!

Nipple shields!! I know they are controversial but I got them this morning to use with my one week old and they were a game changer. For me it was either that or just giving up because I was in so much pain. I’m planning to use them until my nipples heal a little and then try again without them. I use the medela ones

Silverette nipple cups can help the healing. There are also other products that can be good, hydrogel patches that you can put in fridge and then put on to help healing. Also reusable breath pads that can be heated or cooled and provide relief. I had cracked and bleeding nipples when feeding my first, and know how tough it is. My left was particularly bad, so I did a couple of days just pumping/expressing on that side to give it a break and chance to heal. Also, really work on your latch as much as you can. It will get better!

With my first baby my nipples cracked badly due to me not latching him on probably and for a week or two I would only pump and bottle feed while putting nipple cream whenever I wasn’t pumping. That really cured the cracks and then I went back to boob feeding him and it was smooth after that cause I learned how to get him to latch properly.

Lasinoh nipple cream before and after every feed. Cold compress/warm and what the other ladies have suggested x

Yeah tongue tie hurts like a bitch. I had some patches I kept in the fridge with my last because it was so painful. Don’t worry, six weeks will pass before you know it xx

Multimam compresses in the fridge are lush! X
