Poop

Anyone else’s babies going dayssssss without pooping!? We’re now on day 9 and I can’t get my little guy to go 😢. We’ve tried the massages and I even bought a rectal thermometer today in hopes of “stimulating the anus a bit” but nothing yet! He seems fine overall but I’m concerned! Is anyone else going through this? He is breastfed.

I called my pediatrician when this happened. They suggested a suppository for certain cases. Baby pooped instantly! He was in a lot of discomfort. She also suggested I stay away from dairy. We also do the thermometer from time to time.

@Laura thank you for your response!! How many days did your little one go without a bm? .. the last time, was 6 days and she didn’t seem concerned and deemed it “normal”. I am also in the middle of switching because we rarely see our actual pediatrician anymore but instead the PA. She also gave me an infant probiotic to see if it helps but nothing yet! I will call them tomorrow if he doesn’t go today and see what they say. The thermometer really seemed to do nothing honestly lol. Has it worked for you?

A pediatric chiropractor has helped us a ton!

Went from going every 3 days to everyday

I think it depends on the age as well which you didn’t specify. About an ounce of apple juice under a year old, i also breastfeed my 9 week old(mom of 6). It is common for infants not to have as many bms when breastfed as their body doesn’t have much waste to excrete. Instead breastmilk is mostly entirely absorbed and is easy to digest vs a formula fed baby that would poop more frequently. You can try gripe water, and if over 4-6 months some Mamas bliss brand constipation ease. When in doubt for me, I give my baby a small formula bottle and he almost explodes with poo. 😅

@Lindsey thank you for your response! Hopefully we can get some help soon enough!

@Samantha he is 8 weeks old! This is my 4th baby but none of the others had this issue. In fact, they were always pooping lol. He was also at first, then we introduced formula and the bm’s changed but he’s been off the formula for at least 3 weeks now and still we’re struggling with pooping with this being the longest amount of time. 🙁

@Ingrid the thermometer has helped in the past. He didn’t go for a day which wasn’t the concern, he was pushing so hard he was herniating his belly button and crying so much in discomfort- So I know it’s a little different!

@Laura aww! Yeah, my little guy seems to be having sporadic outbursts which I think may be due to not going since he’s passing gas but no bm yet 😢 Hopefully we can get some relief by tomorrow! I really don’t know who I can call and ask at this hour without an ER or urgent care visit.

@IngridYour pediatrician may have an on call number!

Try the frida baby windi, similar to the thermometer but helps my baby poop every time

Heyy I had this same issue when I brought my baby to the pediatrician they said it’s normal not to poop everyday but they did say if it goes longer than a week mix half a ounce of apple juice or prune juice in there milk and they will go I did it with apple juice and within the next hour my baby pooped

@Kaylee I will try this as well! Thank you!

@Shamya thank you for this! I made an appt for today. There definitely needs to be a solution besides just waiting it out! Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry your baby had to go through a similar experience. It’s terrible! 😓

I learned this weird hack recently and it worked for my baby who usually poops once in a day and wasn’t poop for like 3 days . So I tried putting a little coconut oil on my pinky finger and put it on his anus with lightly giving a push (we don’t want it to go inside so it like a lubricating the area) and he pooped like in a 1 hour. I am wondering if it will work for you but doesn’t hurt trying. But do make sure your finger nail is trimmed and clean. Let me know if you try it .

@Sushmita thank you! We did try to stimulate his bottom with Vaseline and a rectal thermometer- the pediatrician did also and it did not work, not even a smear 😪 Ultimately, we were given the okay to give some prune juice as a last resort!
