Induction stories

Hello all! I am being induced on Thursday if baby girl doesn’t arrive before. I’m petrified of being induced, so I’m thinking it’ll be nice to hear some positive induction stories!! As everyone is so quick to tell you the bad ones 😩

I’ve been booked in next Tuesday if baby boy hasn’t arrived by then! Im so hit and miss about it as I don’t really know many who have been induced xx

@Kayleigh ahhh good luck hopefully you don’t need to be! 🤞🏼 I really don’t know how to feel about it either😩 I’ve heard so many horror stories so praying to hear some good ones 🤣 x

@Cody I’ve got a second sweep Thursday so I’m hoping that will start something!! Xx

@Kayleigh I haven’t had a sweep, they did offer me one at my 40 week midwife appointment but I won’t lie I’m not good with anything like that🤣 just wanted her to come naturally x

I was so scared of being induced because of the horror stories but I had a positive experience. I was already 3cm dialated when I was examined so they could just break my waters. They broke them at 2.30am and I gave birth at 5am. It was just a long day waiting around for someone to come available for me x

@Cody I'm being induced on Wednesday if baby doesn't arrive before, and I think he won't 😪 I had my second sweep on Saturday but hasn't started anything yet. I'm so scared of induction 😫 having another sweep tomorrow and just hoping I'll be a few cm dilated for induction day to have less interventions🤞🤞

@Pegeen oh that’s amazing!!!🥺 congratulations!! That would be the dream🤣 what time did you go in to be induced? I’ve got to go Thursday evening x

@Maria oh bless you!! Hope he arrives for you!! 🤞🏼they’re so stubborn🤣 good luck x

I was induced on the Sunday morning and was in labour within 5 hours although I was in labour for over 24 hours

@Samantha that’s not bad!! What induction did you have? X

@Cody the balloon

@Samantha I have absolutely no idea what that is🤣

@Cody it’s not one usually mentioned aha but it worked for me x

@Cody I got there at 8.45 Sunday morning and didn’t have my waters broken until early hours Monday morning x

@Pegeen oh that’s awful😩 I’m hoping to go in Thursday evening have the pessary and go home and sleep and then go back in Friday! X

@Cody I'm not sure how it works, but I thought once the induction process starts you can't go home? Not even with the pressary?

@Maria the pessary is the only one you can, it’s the outpatient induction it’s called. you can only have it if you’re low risk otherwise they want to keep you in x

Induction booked at 41 weeks on the 24th and not looking forward to it either ☹️ mum and mil both had inductions and neither were a good story (I'll spare you) although they did both manage vaginal births with minimal tearing, I think it's the process of the pains themselves that most seem to talk about, but absolutely doesn't help knowing when you're booked in yourself! Hoping I'm dilated enough to break waters and I can avoid the gel/drip – esp the drip. Will request to go home with pessary induction if it's an option, I hate hospitals.

@Kim aww 🙁🙁 yeah I very rarely hear a good induction story! 💔 I really don’t want the drip I think I would straight away decline it. I want either the pessary or just hopefully break my waters🤞🏼 xx

I am due on the 17th and booked in for an induction appointment/ consultation on the 24th. If you feel uncomfortable about being induced you can say no. Worth going to the appointment and talk through options but ultimately they cannot force you and if nothing sounds good to you and you'd rather wait a bit longer it's your call :) I agreed to get booked in mainly because I want them to check (in case he's not here yet) but am already very certain I won't let them induce me unless they can easily break my waters :)

@Cody Same, I only hear a handful and none of them seem to be people close to me which does put a negative spin on things, but I suppose positive stories also don't garner as much attention! I've had prodromal labour once last week and thought omg, this is it, I've gone naturally! Then it passed within an hour and nothing since 😂 I absolutely agree with that, I don't want the epidural either and I feel like if I get the drip, I'll be pushed into getting the epidural to cope with the pain. It's all very unknown and overwhelming!

@Kim I got induced by the balloon and it was so painful I needed the epidural which I didn’t want but gas and air wasn’t working for me but it’s all down to pain tolerance levels and how much you can handle

I got induced on Thursday and it was very positive! It was my second baby and I had 3 sweeps before going in to get induced. I was 2-3cm from the sweeps. I was given the gel at 11am. I got checked at 3pm and was still 2-3cm. My waters went around 5pm and contractions changed and were VERY intense. Midwife checked me around 6pm and I was fully dilated. Only time for gas and air! Baby was born at 7:12pm. From start to finish it was just over 8 hours x

I’m trying to educate myself as much as possible for my induction and also had a very honest chat with my consultant who went through everything. I think sometimes people don’t realise how long it MAY take (although spontaneous Labour can take days), or that theres different steps etc. It’s a more controlled environment than spontaneous labour and we don’t know how we will each tolerate pain - no one gets a medal for doing it on gas and air and even if you did have medication- who will know? 😉 it’s exciting that we know roughly when our babies will be born. I wonder whether the negative stories come from people who didn’t get enough information from medical staff about what may or may not happen x

I was Induced 2 weeks ago it was a lot to deal with as it was decided very quickly and I was in hospital due to been unwell but honestly it was nice, yes the pessary hurt a little more on the uncomfortable side and the balloon was uncomfortable to walk about with but not painful! The midwives were all so lovely all helping me get things going abit more , then I went on hormone drip after a full day with pessary and balloon only making me 3cm but after they broke my waters I was. In active labour for 6 hours and my baby girl was here, the drip once it’s on full. Your contractions do comee quick And hard but honestly I’d do. It all again my midwives spoke with me the whole way through eased me in. Everything made sure I was as comfortable as I could be and helped. Me take. My. Mind off it as. Much as they could, I hope you have a. Lovely experience if you need to be. Induced. But please. Don’t. Panic it’s all for good reasons and it’s not as scary as some people can makke out. X

@Joy thank you lovely!!! 🤍 congratulations to you!

@Cody also advice for anyone! If your midwife tells you little push do it as much as you’ll. want to push out don’t! I listened and came out with nothing but a graze! My baby girl came out 7Lb 6 n half and she is a chunk. With a big head too lol! Thank you lovely x

With my second baby I got induced around 7:30 pm and she arrived after 5 hours and it was smooth but got epidural as I was alone

@Samantha I used to have such a good pain tolerance, but over the years just seem to have become more sensitive for whatever reason, so I must admit I've been a bit anxious about giving in (I don't have any weird complexes about the epidural, I just don't like the associated risks and restrictions). I've beem told ill be having the gel and drip, but I assume that's given it works, never birthed or been induced before so haven't a clue how my body responds both naturally or with hormones. Hoping I will go nature though! But thanks for letting me know about the balloon being painful as I didn't know much about it other than how it works.
