No contractions or severe pain

I was diagnosed with an inevitable miscarriage last week - baby measuring 5 weeks and I should have been nearly 9 weeks plus very slow heartbeat. The miscarriage happened naturally this morning over 3-4 hours of heavy bleeding, tissue passing and some clots. I was quite overwhelmed by the amount. I didn’t get any contractions and the pain wasn’t severe. There was definitely aches but more like period pains. I know everyone’s experience can be different but I understand most people have contractions and severe pain. Has anyone’s experience not been too painful? I’m hoping I had a complete miscarriage with nothing left behind but the lack of pain makes me think maybe I have not. Or perhaps this is unconnected? I will get a scan to check but it has got me thinking. Sorry to anyone who has experienced this loss and sending lots of love.

Sorry you’re going through this, I had an ectopic pregnancy and even though my tube had ruptured, had internal bleeding I still wasn’t in alarming amounts of pain. I appreciate a miscarriage may differ and likely differs between each person but I’ve never heard of contractions during a miscarriage or even extreme pain. Hope you’re ok x

Sorry to hear about this. I wasn’t in any pain, only a dull ache and I passed so many large clots and lost a lot of blood very quickly but still not physically painful. I had a small amount of retained tissue which caused prolonged bleeding for over 4 weeks but never painful. I was nearly 9 weeks when it happened x

I had a MMC and I had heavy bleeding but no pain at all. Didn't need to use any of the painkiller they gave me x

Hi. I’ve had 2 missed miscarriages and both were completely different experiences. The first one medically which was non painful, I had no pain at all! My second one was natural and it was the worst! I did actually feel like I was having contractions! It was horrible! It can happen that it has no pain! Sorry for your loss x

I had a miscarriage last month and it was my second pregnancy. The cramps were similar to early labour. I had so much bleeding I was admitted to hospital. From reading many comments of others experiences it does seem to vary. The scan will confirm whether complete etc x So sorry you’re going through this sending love x

Thank you all so much for sharing your experience. I’m definitely in shock and overwhelmed but so comforted by all of your words.
