Has anyone been to the Lake District with toddler?

Hey, we have never been and looking to go spring next year with a toddler and a baby. Can anyone recommend or advise if most places were pram friendly? x

I've been to Keswick with my 1yo. We were having her in a hiking backpack with a raincover and we had an absolute blast despite the grim weather most days. The towns and some places we went walking were pram friendly, but not everything. Another tip, recently we booked a trip to the Cotswolds and wanted to go with a toddler and without a car. I asked chatGPT and it built me a long weekend trip that was perfectly tailored to our needs. It was very surprising. It's free! Give it a try :)

Weve literally just got back from Windermere for 5 nights. Went to bowness, Keswick, windermere, Ambleside 😁 was great. Most are pram friendly. In bowness we went to Peter rabbit world. You can leave the pram and walk round. All places tend to be pavements unless you’re going walking on hills etc. Keswick is gorgeous. Nice playgrounds too and a lovely lake!! Ambleside is all pavements and have a nice few parks too xxx

@Isabelle I actually asked chat GPT & the itinerary for 5 days actually looks really good 😆 good to know, I’ll need to focus on pram friendly!

@Caren amazing! Would you say Keswick or Ambleside is a better base to be within short drive to most things? It’s huge, so difficult to tell where is a good base 🙈 did you find most restaurants to be family friendly? xx

I go to bowness alot. The streets are pram friendly but i take a backpack carrier for proper walks x

Hi, yes all restaurants are family friendly. There’s kids everywhere we went and people with prams 😁 Keswick we absolutely loved as they have many parks, nice town to walk around and the lake is stunning and lovely to see birds and get an icecream etc. the park nearer to the lake is stunning with plenty of nice space for toddler to walk around. Ambleside has nice parks too.. just not as big a town centre but the park itself probably has more on there for toddlers. We stayed midway between windermere and Ambleside. Keswick is about 30 mins away from everything else. I would advise staying windermere or Ambleside way if you wanna go a few place over a few days to explore like we did. We did: Day one- bowness on windermere Day two- Keswick Day 3- Ambleside Day 4 - windermere Day 5- Lancaster to Williamson park and butterfly house (it was on our way home) But if you wanna stay local to one spot for 5 days or so then Keswick would be a lovely place to stay! Xx

Thanks everyone! This is so helpful and I’ve found a beautiful little cottage not too far from Keswick and a mile from the local restaurant. Going to book for spring next year and can only hope the weather will be ok 🤞😆
