Which meds work best for intrusive thoughts

I've struggled long enough. I have 2 toddlers, in school, lost my home and car,living In a hotel.. I'm feeling burnt out. I'm afraid of meds but I know I need something bc I have scary intrusive thoughts ( images ect) and I feel depressed and tonight I did not make the best meal for my kids. Literally a depression meal ( hotdogs and rice) So I know I need some help. I know all meds work different but please tell me what worked for you.? And also if it's okay to take wellbutrin that's almost a yr old. I was prescribed some but I was too chicken to take it..

I currently don’t take either. I take quitiapine and venoflexine, it’s been helping for the most part Thankfully! Also I completely understand these thoughts are HORRIBLE! I have a lot of childhood trauma and it’s resulted in my having OCD which is the reason for intrusive thoughts.

I’ve been on Zoloft a long time and still have pretty bad intrusive thoughts. They have gotten slightly better when I upped my dose but they’re still very present. Usually it’s recommended a medication be used within a year of it being prescribed but can have a longer shelf life than put on the pharmacy bottles

I'm on 9 different mental health meds. But been on zoloft the longest. Zoloft works great for me personally. But I have heard that for others, it causes them to feel numb. Bit ssris work best when paired with an antipsychotics, which also helps with intrusive thoughts. And I take both, and I pretty much have zero intrusive thoughts. Somedays, I have them still but not as bad and I can normally talk myself out of them or just push them away easily

Your children were fed and that matters, you're going through a tough situation you can also call a sucide line if nothing else for someone to listen. Also call 211 or findhelp.com . The first time I took Zoloft, fir about 5 months it worked great for me. I got off and came back to it a year later. the second time I took it, I was having nightmares, but it was a higher dose. I say try it if you don't feel right get off it.

i'm on both and my quality of life has increased...a bit lmao, nothing much though. i liked prozac for anxiety when i was on it. meds don't have to be scary!!

I’m on both! They work well together

On Wellbutrin and Trintellix

@Carol💗💙 An antipsychotic? What type?

@Brittany I was prescribed wellbutrin. I was afraid to take it.

I take vraylar as my antipsychotic I forget what class it is. But it's worked miracles for me

@Carol💗💙 I'm curious do you just have anxiety, do you have anything else? Just wondering. I wonder if I need an antipsychotic too. All I have are intrusive thoughts though and a bit of depression.

So I'm my diagnosis are Schizophrenia Bipolar 2 Depression Anxiety OCD Adhd Believe it or not. Intrusive thoughts are a sign of OCD

@Carol💗💙 how does having schizo affect your everyday life? This is one diagnosis that I feel I wouldn’t be able to deal with.

@Keawna Honestly, mine is so well managed that most days, it doesn't even affect me now. But it took a few tries to get everything correct. But we made sure it was under control fully before I had my firstborn. Most days, I live my life just as anyone else would. I work a normal job and go to school, raising my kids. You wouldn't be able to tell I even have it. So most days are just normal for me. I have more problems with anxiety than I do my schizo symptoms. But like I said. That's all because it's so well managed by meds and diet
