Mum guilt - too much screen time

I’ve recently become a stay at home mum to my toddler and new baby and feel myself resorting to screen time a lot to get things done around the house. It’s the only way I can keep my toddler distracted otherwise even if she’s got toys, she will start unpacking drawers she shouldn’t or doing something that will mean tidying or cleaning takes 10 x longer or no time to do it. I’ve never been totally against screen time, but have limited it a lot in the past. I want to stop. Any ideas on how I can replace it?

Easier with only 1 child but we get him involved in chores. He empties the dishwasher, sets table, helps either making meals now and again etc. It’s slower for sure but as least you’re not juggling both. Could you toddler proof a room and use a baby gate? If you’re worried they’ll get up to all sorts? We used to do this but got rid of it about 6 months ago now. We can get 10-15 min of him happily playing solo with cars/trains/duplo. What’s she into?

@Cal I get her involved in everything I can to be honest. She also helps with dishwasher, making meals, baking, dusting or will give her a cloth to pretend clean. Some days that goes great, some days not so much. The main issue is when I’m tidying, so for example, I’ll fold her clothes and she will start unpacking something, or unfolding the clothes, or I’ll be sorting something in another room (same level, stair gates closed, and she unpacks her full toy cupboard. All the dangerous cupboards are locked, it’s just more the frustration as I’ll get 1 chore done and then 5 x the amount to pack away. It’s not like this every time but most of the time. 🫣 She’s not great at independent play and we probably get max 5 min, even with her favourite things.. I think I just need to be persistent. I’ve tried sorting things at different times of the day, or after doing activities or play time so she is not bored but 🫠

Ahh I feel you. We do folding etc in a lunch break on days we can work from home. Or after bedtime x
