Has anyone else’s toddlers speech got really good and then declined all of a sudden?

My little boy started talking late but the past 6 months or so he has improved massively and he was finally putting sentences together. I’ve noticed the last couple of weeks his speech has declined, he is struggling to get words out, making noises and pointing rather than asking for something. It’s as if he picks and chooses when he wants to talk and who he wants to talk to. I’m going to give it a few weeks and then contact a health professional but just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same?

I'd see a health visitor and ask about it if the decline lasts. Just to know more :)

My son did this and we eventually found out his ears were clogged with wax. Olive oil for months cleared them out and he’s improved a lot again.

He does get a lot of wax in his ears actually! I might try the olive oil and see if it helps. Thank you @Mel

How did you find out this was the problem? Did you take him to the drs @Mel ? Xx

Yeah we went to the GP as I was worried about speech delay. We’ve got a hearing test coming up next month that was booked ages ago but I’m not actually as worried as I was. New words daily now.
