Estimated baby weight

Has anyone else’s midwife not told them or suggested what their potential baby weight will be? I have the growth scan which shows baby fluctuating just above and just below the 50th percentile but there’s no indication of predicted weight. When I asked the midwife she just said that the weight isn’t shown on there anymore and didn’t advise on what it would be. I understand that it is only an estimate so may be wrong anyway, but it’s slightly disheartening when other mums seem to know what kind of size baby they may have and I’ve been given no indication.

Is it not on your notes?? Either on the scan notes or on the chart?

Your growth scan notes should have baby's estimated weight typed on them?

I also have no idea on baby weight, midwife hasn’t said a word, which I’m fine with as I know it’s generally way off (my friend got told she was going to have a big 9lb+ baby and he came out at 7) - but I get what you mean it would be nice to at least have a guess as everyone else seems to be talking about their baby weight!

I asked at my growth scan but its not been written anywhere. I think the level of inaccuracies from the measurements may make them reluctant to formally write it

@Chantelle I haven’t had a growth scan, one hasn’t been required as there was no concern as abnormally scan or with measurements since

@Scarlett nowhere on my notes. On the peanut app the fetal height chart has the markers on it but not the fetal weight one

Depending on what graph your trust use they plot it using the gestation and the weight in grams. The weight is normally ok the vertical line so if you follow the mark to the line it will have the grams. I haven't seen any where it doesn't show the grams. The scan report normally has EFW. But it can be inaccurate and all They're looking for is good growth and baby not being under the 10th centile

To add, I’ve had a growth scan and nothing about it was added to badgernotes (none of my scans have been) and the only graph they have used is the fundal height graph, nothing on the estimated fetal weight graph, so I’m in the same situation as you! Not a single bit of weight information

@Emily glad I’m not the only one!

If you follow your chart you can guess. But they often have a growth spurt or decline towards the end it’s really hard to tell. Mines on 70th percentile at the moment and I know my last baby was born 94th percentile but growth spurted at the end. Growth scans can also be very inaccurate. Midwife did reassure me that often bigger babies come out easier weirdly. Try not to worry about it but talk to your midwife if you are worried about birthing a big one aha. Mine came out with only 13 mins of pushing at 9lb 4 and no tear so it’s not always a bad thing if that reassures you at all xx

I think it must just vary trust to trust. My experience with my first is that it’s not accurate at all! Sounds like baby is doing well so try not to worry, at least you know if baby is around the 50th then they are perfectly in the middle and you’re unlikely to be pushed into any potentially unwanted interventions to deliver baby earlier than they need to be! X

We’ve not been told and not on paperwork I remember this from first too but only started to get told at the end when they suspected a big baby x

I get given a piece of paper with all current growth scan results on. Tells me current estimated weight but not estimated weight when born. Right now baby apparently gains 1/2 a pound per week
