This will become really sore for her if its not cleaned off properly x
This will create rashes and sores??? Is he aware this will happen or is this just laziness??
If we wash/wipe ourselves after a wee, how can he not possibly wipe a baby’s bum?! Not overreacting at all.
This is what we were advised by the midwives as long as you're changing the baby regularly. Baby urine isn't the same as ours, and actually using wet wipes constantly is bad for their skin.
@Emma don’t have to use wet wipes, can’t use a damp cloth? Damp toilet roll? Who’s midwives are dishing out this advice because it’s really not safe advice
Hes probably just thinking that he doesn't wipe himself when he pees, just remind him females have to wipe every time (even thought this is true for all babies in diapers)
@Robyn we use cotton wool pads and cooled boiled water Nappies these days are made to keep moisture away from their bums - as long as you're changing regularly it will not cause sores. This isn't unsafe advice - were 6 weeks in and the small amount of nappy rash we had during week 2 was cleared up by stopping using wet wipes for dirty nappy, keeping clean with cotton wool, allowing to dry fully
@Emma there you go though!! That’s what I said about a damp cloth or toilet roll (didn’t even think of cotton wool), you’re using something to still clean the pee away! You must always clean the pee away even if it’s only with water, it would cause rashes and sores otherwise
@Robyn I'm here saying we don't do it for pee and she hasn't developed a rash - we don't use barrier creams etc we just make sure she is regularly changed and isn't in a wet nappy for any period of time. This was after the advice of the midwife, and it's also been the advice in a couple of the courses we attended before she arrived.
My son is 2.5 and I don’t wipe him if he’s only wee’d. never had nappy rash.
Eeew urine stinks and is acidic like poo will burn a baby if left too long. That is beyond lazy. Because I would now be conscious people will smell your baby and get a urine smell not the fresh baby smell they expect. He needs to wipe baby with every change, wipe and put something to protect baby’s skin barrier.
@Rashelle This is also what I’m saying, some people are commenting saying they don’t wipe after a pee but isn’t this going to cause yeast infections and thrush in future? B.V. or some other kind of infection? Doesn’t seem healthy at all
@Robyn look, you do you when your baby arrives, but if you end up in a never ending cycle of different creams then hopefully this interaction will provide different insight into how you decide to care for your baby. The OP asked for others opinions, I have a different experience so have voiced it (after following medical advice). (Only thing I'd say is avoid using wet toilet paper - sounds a bit abrasive for babies skin)
Nappies wick the wee away from the skin. We were told in the hospital not to wipe if it's only wee since lots of wiping is harsh on the skin. We have never used wipes for wee and rarely have to use nappy rash cream
Urine is acidic so could burn their skin
