Nap vs feed schedule

How is everyone balancing their little one’s naps and feeding schedules?? As an example my 3 week old daughter’s last feed started at 11.40, she finally fell asleep for her nap at 1.20 so she was awake for 1hr50mins. If we adhere to the 3 hour feed schedule she would start her next feed around 2.40 which gives her 40 mins more sleep which means her nap would only be around 1hr20. Is that an ok length of time for a nap at that age in the day? If she doesn’t show signs of waking should I wake her for her feed around the 3 hour mark? My parents had to look after her yesterday cus I needed help & they let her sleep for over two hours during her day naps so she went 4 hours between feeds and idk if that’s too long?? Help 😂

it’s hard isn’t it ! but my baby is 3 weeks also and she just feeds on demand and sleeps on demand i don’t have her in a routine or naps at certain times xx

I’m just letting mine guide me on the feeds. Feed on wake up and let them sleep as long as they want. Has your baby been putting weight on ok?

I feed on demand and let him sleep for however long he wants. He didn’t lose any of his birth weight and has been putting a good amount of weight on in between so I didn’t feel like I should be waking him for feeds (he gets veryyyy ratty when he’s overtired 🤣) I’ve done this since he was born, he’s now a month old xx

I just let my boy feed and sleep as and when he wants. He has longer stints of sleep at night but first thing in the morning he makes up for sleeping longer by short naps and more feeds (1 every hour) for three hours and then he is normal for the rest of the day. I go by him and not timings, I let him sleep as long as he wants unless it reached a certain point where I think he needs to wake then I gently start making that happen but I always let him take the lead x

@T she was above birthweight at our 10 day health visitor check, she’s not been weighed since but she’s outgrown newborn clothes so she’s definitely growing ok

Please do not wake your baby to feed, they let you know when they need a feed, you'll find as they grow they'll go through phases, so they may only sleep an hour and cluster feed every hour or so, and then you may have passes where they sleep for 4 hours and have a bigger feed, you need to listen to your babies cues unless they are way too sleepy but in that case you should maybe see your GP

@Georgia we’ve not woke her up to feed since being above birthweight, she was only going like 1.5 hours between feeds by herself up until maybe 5 days ago. I’ve just seen so much conflicting advice on what to do that I was keen to see what other people are doing

We don't have a schedule for napping or feeding, just do it all by her cues :) The feeds & naps all vary in length & as long as they are putting on weight it's all good 😊

He just feeds and sleep when he wants to! I didn’t think babies that young had schedules to be honest?

@Bethan I’m not particularly worried about having a routine or schedule, I think I was more worried that she would go too long without feeding or wouldn’t be getting enough sleep. Just my anxiety sending my brain into a bit of overthinking overdrive!

@Callie Ah I see! Perhaps try feeding on demand a few days before your baby is due to be weighed? If they’re putting on weight then you know it’s ok.

I'm similar to you, feed every 3ish hrs, usually naps in-between but if he doesn't for the whole time that's fine too x

We haven't even been thinking about it. He just sleeps when he wants. Wakes up when he's hungry (though if it has been a very long time we do occasionally wake him up for a feed).
