@Tanita I do the exact same thing, no schedule and just feed very regularly I would say even every hour sometimes. During the night I do a lot of dream feeds just to keep him sleeping mainly
Thanks both, how do your breasts cope with the small feeds? I found if she didn’t fully drain both sides I ended up with clogged ducts and mastitis - hence why we ended up doing fewer big feeds.
My little girl generally follows ‘eat play sleep’ but as the day goes on and we enter late afternoon it ends up being ‘eat play eat sleep’ - she was a good sleeper and woke around midnight, 4 and then at 7, but recently is up every 2 hours between 11 and 6! I just follow her cues!
I haven’t really had the issue of feeling really full unless it’s nighttime and I only feed off of one side. I think where I’m doing smaller feeds very often and alternating sides it’s not been a big issue. I always read that you should offer both sides but that’s not something I’ve ever really done, I’m sure it’ll come when he starts solids and drops feeds though xx
I’m the same as Courtney, I only really feel full if I haven’t switched during the night. During the day because she feeds so regularly they don’t get very full. She generally just does one side at a time. They’re mainly small feeds but she does still do feeds where you can feel that side has been drained. Your milk should adjust after around 72 hours so hopefully the full feeling won’t last too long if you end up changing the way you offer feeds :)
My baby feeds every 2.5-3hrs roughly for 15-20 mins. I tried to see if I could get her to take a bottle of expressed milk a bit earlier to see if I was missing her hunger cues.. but no.. she won't take it.. so I'm assuming she gets enough?
Thanks. We’ve got a quiet Easter weekend so I might give it a go and see!
Loren, that where we are too really - 15-20 mins every 3hrs. And she definitely feels like she’s getting enough (plenty of nappies, pretty happy and settled) but just doesn’t gain enough weight 🤷🏻♀️. If your little girl is following her percentile and otherwise happy I’d assume she’s getting enough 🙂
I offer a feed very regularly and don’t follow any sort of schedule. It’s probably eat play eat play eat sleep, sometimes she stays latched her entire nap and feeds during it. I would try to offer feeds more regularly throughout the day. All babies are different but I’d say my baby doesn’t go longer than an hour without nursing, though sometimes it’s a big feed and other times just a little top up :) I did the same with my son. He was a very chunky baby but my daughter isn’t as chunky as he was even though i feed them the same. Some babies are just smaller?
