Pampers - nappy change?

I was wondering whether you mama’s are changing nappies during the night feeds or have you stopped? One of my friends said that she had stopped and didn’t change unless he did a poo. I feel like it becomes very heavy and full quickly and worry it’ll leak but at the same time I don’t want to wake him fully during night feeds? What’s everyone doing?

Only if she fully wakes up already. I won’t disturb her sleep to do so and if she feeds while half asleep then I won’t change her unless she’s pood.

My son gets very full nappies so I always change before a feed. He only has two night feeds however so!

I will change if she's pooped or if the nappy feels really full of wee

I have been doing as routine, bathe with warm water, Pat dry! Never leaks but I worry about skin integrity left in urine too long! X

I change at the 10/11 o clock feed, then again around 2/3, then again at around 6. If she was up more I’d still change around those times. If she poo’s I’ll obviously change that. I also change before the feed so she’s sleepy after the feed x

@Christie I currently do this, same timings too as whenever it’s feeding time I also change him. I’m just wondering if that is necessary because eventually we won’t have to wake them for their feeds - this means we don’t have to change their nappies either right?

Now at almost 7 weeks I change around midnight then unless there’s a poo it’s the 6/7am feed. It wakes him too much to do it at the 3am feed and so long as it’s a tight nappy with frills out it will hold

I lather my 6 week old in a BARRIER cream (not sudocreme - something like metanium or a zinc oxide one I found on amazon) that way it protects her sensitive skin from contents of the nappy and I don’t change her unless she’s pooed or I can feel it’s really heavy. Otherwise as others have said she wakes too much and I feel like the difference it makes to how your night goes is mad.. generally we can go around 11 till 4:30/5 until she fills it at night - she wees quite a lot so during the day her nappies are massive 🙈🙈 The barrier cream is also a godsend if they poo in their sleep without waking so you don’t realise until you also wake up! x

We've got into a really good routine of having a half feed, changing and then finishing off the feed. That way he's pretty content throughout and then will go straight back off to sleep if he's tired ☺️ barely have any crying too so it's working really well. He's 4 weeks and have been doing it now for nearly 3 weeks. Apparently if you do things at least 3 times, they'll see it as routine x

If it’s full of wee or there’s poo ofcourse you need to change it. But if it’s not full of wee you can leave it on until it is. I wouldn’t wake him up for a change, usually babies cry when they need changing especially if they’ve done a poo. You can also put a bigger nappy on at night so it absorbs more if your baby is doing longer stretches or if you’re worried about nappy rash

@Sarah yeah once my baby goes longer stretches I’ll stop changing in the night. And eventually I’ll trust that the nappies not going to be too full and uncomfortable and won’t need to change it x

I always change before a feed. If he goes at the end of a feed then I’ll leave it until the next feed unless it’s bothering him.

I always have to change my boy, 9/10x he will have poo in there

@hannah My son will scream the house down every time his nappy is changed no matter what 💀

@hannah realistically every child is different so whilst yours doesn’t wake for a nappy change I can guarantee 50% will regardless of temp etc and I wouldn’t want anyone feeling like they “don’t have things correct” if their little one is waking. (I’ve worked with children for years) My first didn’t wake at all to be changed but my 7 week old will immediately wake up; she won’t necessarily cry but it does wake her enough it then takes a while to get back off.

I will add if I was changing my daughter every time there was a blue line at night then it would be changing her every single hour

@Natasha I do exactly this! Boo is after nappy change and he falls asleep straight after. Can’t stand the idea of him being in a wet nappy! X

I breastfeed him, then change then settle again on the boo-boo. Husband does exactly the same when he does the express feed. X
