Pumping struggles

I solely BF my LO however I have some weddings coming up shortly that are child free. I’ve tried several times to pump so I have milk stored away in the freezer but I’m not even able to collect an ounce. My little boy is gaining weight really well so I know I’m not lacking milk. Has anyone else struggled to pump? Any tips?

Flange size maybe? Positioning of the pump? Sometimes I think people do just struggle to pump annoyingly! I will say though, manual pumps are actually really good too!

Same! I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried giving a bit of formula and maybe try start doing both but he won’t drink it.

Which pump are you using? I've found the manual ones much more productive than my Elvie or Momcozy!

I always pump first thing in a morning after his feed. And after his last feed at night. The best thing I’ve used is a milk collector on the other boob that’s what’s collected enough milk and now I have a separate freezer for his milk ! It’s full😂. But definitely pump after feeds at morning and at night. Sometimes I even pump 30/1 hour after his feeds to stimulate my breasts to produce more milk.

@Frayere thanks, I currently have an electric pump so will look into a manual one & check the flange size x

Timing matters to me I get the most between 1-5am x

@Caroline I have a cheap electric one from Amazon. Any recommendations for a manual one?

I agree with manual pump! I bought the pipette electric pump and it’s no way near as good as my cheap and cheerful tomee tippee manual pump which was a fraction of the price and pumps significantly more milk. Just takes a bit more time & effort unfortunately

1-5 am is the best time to pump, give that a try ☺️

@Natasha that’s interesting you’ve said that as I’ve collected more with my Hakka on the other boob whilst feeding. Thank you. I’m going to make an effort to try collect first thing and at night x

@Lydia I find my manual pump is better than on the go pumps also! The only issue is they can be costly x

@Isabel I spoke with my hv yesterday and she said if I struggle to collect enough milk is to try the pre-made formula bottles, maybe worth trying that.

3 things that helped me pump successfully: 1) use correct flange size. Turned out i needed a smaller one than the standard one my pump came with. 2) Warm compress before pumping. 3) most importantly, pump during the night between 1-5 am as someone else previously mentioned. That’s when i am able to extract the highest amount

Have you tried manually expressing? Like actually using your hands? Sometimes you can actually get more this way, weirdly

I had a hand pump first but that was tiring and time consuming. I got Lillo hands free ones from Amzon and it works wonders for its price point.
