I’m thinking about capping my little one’s nap as it’s starting to drag our days out quite a bit. His wake windows have been getting longer for a few weeks now (if not months), and even though his nap’s usually around 1 to 1.5 hours, bedtime has shifted to 9.30-10pm, which is absolutely exhausting, especially with me being 8 months pregnant. At the same time, the idea of losing that midday break is just as exhausting, so I feel really stuck. I’m thinking of trying to cap his naps at around 45–50 minutes to see if that helps.
@Nora we are in the same situation at the moment but I just can't imagine not having a nap at this point. Plus, she's so exhausted she falls asleep if she doesn't have one, so she obviously still needs it.
Did they give you a reason to cut out the nap? I'd say if she still needs it then don't.
We started capping the nap this week at 1 hour, 1.5 hours if it’s been a busy morning, as bedtime was becoming a struggle and night wakes returned / early wakes! But if her night sleep was fine, we would have left the nap as is which was 2 hours sometimes more
You know your child better than the last you saw for an hour. If she still needs the nap then keep it. There’s absolutely no reason to cut it out. If the health visitor tries to tell me that I’ll be saying absolutely no way. My daughter naps from 1:30-3:30 and still sleeps from 8 till 8:30
I’d say only cut it if it’s impacting bed time, I.e earlier starts or struggling to go to bed. My eldest (now 5) napped until he was 3 and a half and he just decided one day he didn’t want to nap anymore. My youngest (also just 2) is similar to your daughter. He has a 2hour (max) nap in the day, is usually in bed by 7 and up at 6. I’ve heard of dropping a nap, but never cutting completely unless it is impacting your night times x
