Unexplained nipple pain?!

I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 5 weeks and I have a pain in both of my nipples that has gotten worse and worse to the point where I'm ready to give up! No one seems to understand the pain as it isn't my skin (no cracking or bleeding) it feels like it is underneath my nipple inside my boob. Literally feels like razor blades! Anyone else experienced anything similar and had any answers as there is nothing wrong with our latch and I don't want to have to give up on breastfeeding l!

Could it be thrush?

@Ayesha thanks for the comment! This is a possibility and we are on treatment for it just incase it is that. Wondering if anyone has had thrush and experienced the same type of nipple pain as had no improvement so far after a few days x

I had this with my first baby.. toe curling pain… so I really feel for you! I can’t help with diagnosis, but nipple shields and silver cups really helped! Although the surface of my nipples were visibly damaged, but they may still help. X

I had this and rang the breastfeeding helpline, i thought my latch was fine too as id had it checked in hospital/ by health visitors but turns out after following their advice to adjust how we latch the pain disappeared in 24 hours. I recommend giving them a call they’re so helpful
