Does he watch YouTube? Or certain American shows? There was a thing in USA a while back about children there having UK accents because of Pepper Pig
@Sarah🦄 he doesn’t really watch tv shows.
@Donna Woods yess! He loves his family fingers YouTube song things. That could be it!!! Never even thought he would come out with an American accent though from that lol. X
Have you looked into gestalt language processing? Some children learn phrases first (I believe this can include the inflection/accent too) and then word back to individual words/meanings - it could also be echolalia and he just likes how saying it with an American accent feels
I have not thank you! I will look into this. X
He should slowly start speaking similar to yourself as he grows and will outgrow the American accent.
I work at a secondary school for SEN children and there is one particular child who literally has a full blown American accent but he is 100% British. It’s a thing apparently with autistic children! They pick up on the accents they watch on TV and mimic them. It’s very interesting
I blame Peppa Pig, number blocks and Bluey. My child had and English/Aussie accent for a few years.
As someone living in the US & curious if overseas people think we have an accent, I literally laughed out loud when I read this post!!! 😆😆 I love it!
😂😂
I had an american accent when I was younger 😂 and never watched any sort of american shows only the 2000s british kids shows
I just thought this was hilarious 😂
Something he is watching is always the culprit. Bluey and peppa i hear all the time be culprits but he can be picking it up from anything
@Liz everyone has an accent lol

My American kids sometimes say things like let’s put things in the boot and I’m like yep thanks Peppa Pig 😂 but as an autistic person with autistic kids who were nonverbal we deal with echolalia which we learn to repeat phrases how we hear them- accent and all 😂
Is he autistic by any chance? It's quite common for autistic children to have American accents. My oldest does (shes 9) and doesn't really watch American shows on tv. My 7 y/o sounds British however x
Thank you everyone @Samantha he’s not been diagnosed YET. On waiting list but from what every professional is saying(so far) off record yeah he is xx
It's common in Autism, I follow a parent on Instagram and her 12 year old has an American accent too when she speaks, just appeared overnight
How many American TV shows do you put on for your child?🤷🏼♀️
