Naps

My wee girl usually loves her naps. She's been so good and going down for them at the right time and sleeps about 1hr30. I have a newborn and it's been so good getting that time to catch up on everything I need to do about the house. But this past few days my daughter has been screaming crying when I put her in the cot and won't settle like she normally does. She definitely still needs the nap because she's falling asleep at the dinner table (dinner is at 5.30pm ish). Has anyone been through this yet and when do I just bite the bullet and cut out the nap completely 🥲

No advice but we are on day 3 of fighting naps and it’s taking its toll! 🫠

@Charlotte its tough. It's literally the only time I get time for the newborn alone and get things done 🙈 it's only been 3 days for us too

Congratulations! Is this when you put her down for a nap or is she crying while asleep? Could it be teeth? The most likely thing is separation anxiety though.. having a new sister is a really big adjustment for them! Are you filling her attention cup with some 1:1 time maybe just before the nap? x

We’ve had a few episodes of nap fighting since turning 2, but she definitely still needs a nap. When she is in a fighting it phase I keep a hand on her tummy to get her to sleep. So might be she needs a little more support for the time being even if she doesn’t normally. Xx

We’re in the exact same position (minus the newborn). I normally put my little boy in his bed and he falls asleep within 5 minutes by himself, the last two weeks it’s been difficult. He just keeps appearing at the living room door or wherever me and his sister are. He’s the same and definitely needs the nap still because if we go out for a walk he’ll fall asleep in the buggy and like the other day as soon as I tried him in my bed he went straight to sleep. No idea why it’s happening or how to combat it so here in solidarity but just going to keep trying each day because he can’t get through the day without it at the moment. Congratulations on your little one and I hope it gets back to normal for you soon! 🤍

So yesterday my daughter completely skipped her nap after me trying to get her to sleep for 1.5 hours. I tried patting, milk, singing, sshing, swaying/rocking and also laying down and cuddling her. She just would not have it!! I was bracing myself for a horrific evening and overnight but she didn’t actually drop at all and didn’t seem to go into overtired. She slept through until 5.30 which is early for her but she went to bed about an hour earlier than normal to compensate for skipped nap. I would much rather keep the nap as I like the mental break but it wasn’t as awful as I had expected so just a little bit of positivity for anyone going through it… x

we haven't had a nap for quite some time now before she turned 2 infact not for lack of trying mind. she's sleeps 11-12hrs a night so isn't to bad. I was putting her bed earlier around 6 when she skipped but now its between 7-8 and awake at 7.
