The only thing I can think is to make sure you’re eating and drinking enough
@Vicki thank you my lovely🥹I’ll try and make sure I’m eating and drinking enough to see if that makes a difference. Xx
@Francesca I’ll definitely make sure I do and see if this makes a difference x
I know it's easier said than done but you have to try and look after yourself - I have one of those (fake) Stanley cups that I take up every night as I hate lukewarm water. That really helps me drink more!
I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling like that, and i think we are the first to be super hard on ourselves….You are deffo not a shit mum, you have to look after yourself too! I haven’t experienced the nausea but have the pacifier and my nipples are so tender in the evening due to my baby being continuously on the boob…. 😳 Maybe give your health visitor a call, they’ll deffo have heard of this, but it could be you need to supplement with something? Maybe you’re not getting enough protein / fats. I read you need a lot of dairy when BF…. So maybe it’s to do with that?
Hang in there. You’re doing great, 👍 Make the most of having free advice on the end of the phone. Or remember there is a number you can text about BF in your red book
Hi, I don't know if this will be the same feeling, but I bf my 8 week old and these last few days, I've been feeling flush and then nauseous towards the end of the feed. When he was first born, I had a lot of night sweats, which I believe are normal and hormone related. It's been feeling like a mini version of them, but in the daytime and only while breastfeeding, so I've assumed hormone related. Our bodies go through so many peaks of different hormones, and I think bf prolongs. I'm hoping it's a short-term hormone adjustment, and it'll settle back down in a few days. It may be the same for you. I hope you feel better soon. Keep going 💪 you've got this!
The only thing that comes to mind is water. 💧 make sure you’re drinking lots and lots. You can’t pour from an empty cup (no pun intended) so you have to look after yourself. The fact you’re worrying about being a good mum shows that you already ARE a brilliant mum. Keep going. You got this 💪🏻
Do you think it could possibly be D-MER? Basically for milk production your prolactin and oxytocin has to be increased so your body decreases dopamine and the sudden drop can make you feel awful both physically and mentally. Do you also feel anxious and/or have any other negative emotions? This can be really common if so and can come on at any time during your journey, there’s no ‘fix’ as such, it would be finding ways to cope. For me chewing gum really helped with nausea x
@Chloe I did google it and it actually did come up with D-MER! I don’t have any negative emotions as such but do feel anxious with it sometimes and want to immediately de latch her. Definitely going to try chewing gum though, thank you so much! Fingers crossed x
@Emily funny you mention this as past 1-2 weeks I’ve been feeling really nauseous when BF (EBF, now 11 weeks old). Unsure what’s been causing it. My nausea starts as soon as we start breastfeeding. It’s not enough to make me stop, but unpleasant, especially as I usually have food when I sit down to breastfeed. :(
Maybe have a snack whilst bf and see if that helps? Some crackers or something? Are you dehydrated, I feel a bit sick when I've not drank enough. There is a big change in breastfeeding around the three month mark, you go from having breast full of milk that baby has to drain, to sort of an 'on tap' situation. So there are big hormone changes which are probably the cause of your sickness. Can you try to push through for a couple of weeks and see if it settles? It all starts getting better after three months imo so hopefully this settles for you x
@Chloe I think I am dehydrated, it’s so hard to get enough water in when babies crying and you don’t know where your bottle is! I will try drink more. It does feel different now breastfeeding, I get what you mean. Thank you!
@rosie oh I feel you, so so hard! I'm finding it even harder this time around as every time I have a glass of water my toddler keeps putting things in it. The other day he put a whole sausage in it that I had left out for the dog 🤢 I picked up the glass to drink it and nearly threw up and I was trapped BF little one so just got more dehydrated hahaha, and he keeps stealing my water bottle so that's no use! I have no advice really haha other than I hope it gets better for all of us soon!
No advice but sending hugs, you are not a shit mum! Are you hydrated enough? My little one uses me as a dummy too, sometimes I have to distract myself by watching TV or scrolling on my phone.
