Oversupply at night / EBF

I've been EBF my 7 weeks old boy so far and have occasionally pumped to relieve some pressure or have a bottle given by his dad when I had appointments. He sometimes sleeps longer at night and I feel my boobs would explode. I wake up in pain so I go and pump a bit to relieve the pressure but they're still hard and painful. For example, tonight I expressed 120ml/4oz until I felt some relief. But then there are nights he wakes up every 3-4 hours. How do you manage that? Any tips on how to deal with the boobs when he is sleeping without messing up my supply in the long run?

Following as I’m the same!

I’m exactly the same! I was able to relieve them a bit by feeding her but by 5am, I had to pump!

I use a hot flannel and hand express just to get a bit of relief rather than pumping. Nothing worse than the pain of engorgement!x

The more you pump the more milk you'll make so I wouldn't do that just for relief as you'll end up with more (unless you are deliberately trying to build up a store). If you just leave it then your body will get the message after a few days and stop making excess milk. It takes about three months for the body to learn how much to make. In the first three months the breasts keep filling with milk and baby empties the breast, but after three months it's sort of an 'on tap' situation so the breasts won't feel 'full' anymore and you won't leak etc

I wouldn’t do anything, your body will adjust. I’m the same! My boy will sleep 10 hours one night and the next wake at 3am for a feed. My boobs have just adjusted. Pumping will make your body produce more. Xx
