When we first dropped our nap, I'd just make sure she had quiet time during the time that she would normally nap, and now she goes to bed between 6.30-7.30/8pm, depending on his tired she is. She normally just tells me when she's tired and wants to go to bed. If your LO is having a late bedtime it's probably time to drop the nap. I found it a lot easier to just go cold turkey than reducing nap time
We initially thought it would be fine to have our son nap for 30 mins to an hour max amd not sleeping past 2pm but after a certain point that didnt work. It would be impossible to get him down before 8:30 and we couldnt go on like that. Now he no longer naps during the day. If you drop the nap your son will surely be getting tired much faster (obviously) and probably getting cranky sooner and some meltdowns after 5 o'clock because his system is done. We just try to make sure we're eating for about 6 oclock then have him in bed for 7 o'clock. Anytime after that is tears. Hope that helps and ghat the transition works for your family and doesnt cause you too much stress.
We dropped the day nap at 24 months. On days at home, he comfortably has no nap, and is ready for bed at about 7.30pm. He goes to daycare twice a week, and on those days bedtime is horrendous. We even restricted it to 1 hour max, and it's still so bad. Last week I asked if he can be given an activity at naptime, as they technically can't prevent them from napping.
For those whose babes go to bed around the 8pm mark, what time are they waking up? 😵💫
@Sharnee mine wakes between 6-7, but would probably sleep til around 7/7.30 if Hey little brother didn't wake her up every morning
@Estelle I would love a 6am sleep in tbh. My oldest is the one who wakes his younger brother 🤣 and so they’re both awake between 4:30-5, which is hard because then they’re both cranky and tired by 12 and end up falling asleep on the couch.
@Sharnee it's so hard to break the cycle, we had a 4.45am start today 🫠
Thank you for all your answers M sure he is ready to drop the nap . Yesterday we fought to do down for nap and then slept at 7 pm woke up at 6 am😀this morning
My little girl has dropped her nap. It's been hard though with childcare, when she was going 3 days a week and I told them to not let her sleep anymore because her bedtime was too late she coped really well no nap, she'd still nap on some days at home and weekends. But I've recently started working full time so I'm finding and she gets so exhausted going to childcare five days a week. I've told them multiple times if they think she's tired just let her have a sleep it's no big deal, but they're very black and white and don't use discretion, so will never put her down for an occasional nap even if she needs it since I said we'll trial dropping her nap
