Delayed speech

My LB turned 2 in January but his speech isn’t great. He can say around 20/25 singular words and a few statements like “ready steady go” etc. Just wondering if anyone else’s little ones are taking a bit longer with their speech too?

My LB speech isn’t the best, he turned 2 in January & nursery expressed their concerns however at home he does just mutter some random words at times, but he gets what he needs from them words. He’s getting better at talking as the weeks go on. He’s goes days with nothing then all of a sudden he starts spurting new words, then it’ll stop again. But it’s taken a few months to get to this point. If you’re concerned, bring it up with nursery of childminder etc if you use them, they’ll offer extra support around speech x

Our 2yo boys are similar and our eldest was too (he is now 5 and speaks really well). If you're worried, you can speak to the HV at the 27month (ish) check but we just had ours and the HV had no issues with their speech. My nieces who are the same age are much more vocal but not as developed with skills like climbing, jumping and doing puzzles etc. Some children just develop other skills earlier and speech happens a bit later. The only time I'd be really worried is if LO wasn't trying to communicate or understanding anything. x

My boy was 2 in January as well and he is exactly the same, can say quite a lot of singular words and the odd phase but I wouldn’t class him as talking still. He starts nursery next week so we are hoping he comes along more in the next few months! We expressed our concerns at his 2 year review but they said not to worry at the moment as he can understand everything we say to him and hopefully nursery will kick him along a bit more. They said they would call in a few months as see how he’s getting on. You are not alone!

My little boy is similar, he’s only just started putting two words together so like he said 'Night Daddy' for the first time. He’s under speech and language therapy because his delay is attributed to hearing loss from prolonged glue ear. We’re getting more words each day though, his non verbal communication is great as is his understanding and he does imaginative play and follows instructions etc. It’s so hard not to worry about it but they are still so little at this point and as long as he’s communicating with you in other ways that’s the main thing. I know it’s such a stereotype but boys generally are slower with speech than little girls, he’ll get there in his own time x

My little boy sounds very similar to yours 🙂

No words yet. He'll start nursery next month so fingers crossed. His sister was a late talker and didn't start until 3 ½. She just turned 4 and will honestly never shut up 🤣

My little girl was 2 in January this year (31 Jan) she will say few words but her speech is delayed but lately she has being trying to say people names. I’m not too worry yet but she is getting there. She understands what you are saying to her just he words is not coming out xx

Mine isn’t great either. Only single words. Max 10, but understands everything. She’s just been referred to SALT. Does yours understand everything that you’re saying? X

My LB can say about 5 words. He has been referred for ASD I blame myself but I know it’s no one’s fault :( He shows he wants things by taking my hand and taking me to the places or he’ll give me things x

@Victoria our babies share the same birthday 🥰
