I have a really ignorant question. I bought a book to teach my baby sign language, but the illustration of how to sign 'milk' confused me. I looked it up online and found a different sign for milk. The book says it goes by bsl standards. Which sign should I use? Is there a difference between bsl and baby bsl? Sorry for my ignorance!
I sign as am HOH and sign milk by closing my fists with little finger and thumbs extended then pumping like milking a cow.
Having said that, many signing families used personalised signs, especially for often used words (like a favourite toy or pet) and names, so there are definitely variations for things out there. If you’re only signing between the two of you, comprehension is key. If she’s signing to the wider community when older, you find ways to explain family slang to others. 😊
@Donna thank you! That's super helpful. I was thinking of when she starts nursery. But you're right, I can just let the staff there know 😊
