Autism and illness

Does anyone find that when their child is sick with a bad cold or fever, their autistic traits are exacerbated? My daughter tends to have more anxiety, sensory seeking elevates, she stops using her words to communicate and will just grunt, she won’t get anything for herself only points to what she wants, and her eye contact is way less. She usually functions in a way that I can understand her when she is well. I don’t know if this is just my child, or if this is common with autism.

Yes, my sons speech goes, and he regresses a fair bit. It's like it takes so much strength to get better they can't understand how they were just how they feel comfortable, so their autism traits/ nonverbal /semi verbal gets stronger as I guess that's well for us thier comfortable level well that's what makes sense to me.

My sons non verbal so can’t comment on that but he literally won’t take medicine to get better we’ve tried EVERYTHING so it takes him a lot longer to recover

Yes! I find my daughter is a lot worse when she is ill x

@Meg you’re right about it taking so much strength to get better. It’s very tough to get through.

@Sam same!! I had to bear hug her and open her mouth yesterday. Her fever was just too high I had to get it to come down. So tough.

@Scarlett ok, thank you for letting me know. ❤️

It really is :( my son will gag and spit it out we had to take him to the hospital last time because we just couldn’t get his temp down

@Sam uh! I’m sorry…hugs Mama. ❤️

Nope my son’s autism traits go away when he’s sick. All he does is lay there….the house is very quiet when he is sick. No loud vocal stimming, no running and jumping, banging the walls etc.

@Shea oh wow…that is the complete opposite of my girl.
