Second hand stuff

So I’ve got 99% of my baby stuff off marketplace or Vinted which works great for me I don’t mind doing that. However, what’s everyone’s views on getting a breast pump off Vinted? I’d clean it and sterilised it before I used it but I just wanted to see if there was an opinion on this? Breast pumps are expensive to buy brand new especially the hands free ones I won’t be offended by any negative opinions.

Personally I think it’s fine if it’s cleaned and sterilised x

I think second hand breast pump would be fine, as like you said, you’d sterilise it etc. I’m similar to you, everything so far apart from a car seat has been second hand, but when I went to buy a breast pump second hand, I just couldn’t do it. So I’ve bought a new Haaka (if you create a wishlist on Amazon, you can get 15% off all baby stuff! So got mine for £19!) which will collect let down and then when I’ve got the hang of breast feeding (hopefully) I will invest in a new breast pump! Xx

See notning wrong with it long as clean well. End of day with my 1st I ended up using a hospital electric pump. So if it's good enough to use 1 in hospital that's been used by people previously then it's good enough for home too. I've bought a 2nd hand steriliser to keep at my parents house. Do what you think it right for you x

Do it! They're so expensive and it's all fine if thoroughly cleaned and sterilised. You just might need some replacement parts, some small parts do wear over time impacting suction (normally cheap) There's a breastfeeding charity local to me and they loan one out so must be fine xx

@Natasha price normally reflects quality and functionality. Buying second hand allows you go get an expensive item for a fraction of the price, rather than something, that is already cheap when buying new.

@Ziedune my sister had the £34.99 on and it's perfect works amazingly I Yh I can understand with some place's if it's cheaper it's not as great I just personally wouldn't buy these type of things second hand just me though everyone is different

I've bought one second hand from Vinted. They specified that they sterilised it. But of course, I'll be sterilising it again myself before baby arrives

If you are planning to breastfeed, you won't need a pump immediately so you could wait and see how you get on with it.

@Jo the plan is to do a bit of both because if she’s at my in laws and I’m not there then I can’t breastfeed it would need to be bottles I’m guessing

They don't recommend you pump until around 6 weeks to establish supply, so there no rush on buying a pump.

Check if it's an open or closed pump. If it's closed that means there are valves which stop any potential contamination getting into the pump mechanism (which you obviously can't clean), so that's fine to buy/use second hand. If it's an open system then it's recommended not to have second hand. It's also recommended to replace any silicone/flexible parts regularly, so I'd buy new tubing, valves, etc.

I bought most of my things second hand too but the breastpump i think i would feel a bit weird, i bought them new even before i got pregnant and solut the payment in 4 on amazon.

I would as I bought one with my first child and did not get on with the brand I bought, I actually went on to sell it to someone else on Vinted.
