Colostrum harvesting

Hi there, I'm asking this out of genuine curiosity as I have not yet gotten a satisfactory answer during research. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and due to gestational diabetes and possibly a c-section (because baby is in the Frank breech position) I have been advised to start colostrum harvesting. I've been harvesting for 4 days now and have been blessed enough to have been able to collect 20 ml thus far. (I'm a absolute over producer of breast milk as I found out with my 2 previous babies.) After birth your body will produce colostrum for about 2-5 days then change to transition milk and then full milk. Our bodies do this naturally and adapts to our babies needs. (Research suggests that your body possibly goes back to producing colostrum when baby is sick) IE: your body adjusts to your babies needs. Now my question: Why build up a colostrum stach if baby only needs it for the first 2-5 days and you plan on breastfeeding anyway.? What is the need to have large amounts frozen in the fridge? I understand the need to have some on hand (maybe 20-50 ml) for just after birth in case needed due to gestational diabetes and complications after c-section. But beyond that I don't see the need as your body works on supply and demand when breastfeeding and changes according to babies needs. Secondly: I'm on day 4 of harvesting and I've already noticed that it's changed. It's not thick, creamy and sticky anymore it's more transition milk now. So what is the point in continuing to harvest? Please don't be mean as I'm genuinely curious. I aim to understand and have facts before making decisions. TIA

It’s in case baby doesn’t latch, has an NG tube added by NICU, or if something big happens to yourself. If you don’t use it there’s groups on Fb Like this where you can donate it to women&babies who aren’t as fortunate https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1A4hCxz3s1/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Can use it beyond the first few days if they need a little top up , use on their skin / in the bath . When they get a cold etc

Afraid I can’t comment on how it’s changing x

Also I’d say 20ml is probably enough , I managed 80 and still have 40 in my freezer 😂

So colostrum is good to store in the freezer for 6 months so even if you don’t use it straight after birth it’s still good to have. I expressed about 40 syringes worth before birth and we didn’t use a single one in the early days. We ended up using them after every vaccine to help her little immune system. It’s always better to have some and not need it, than need it and not have any. In terms of the colour and consistency changing, it varies a lot. It’s still all colostrum, just all depends on what you ate that day, how much water you drank etc
