VBAC Prep

I had an emergency c section for my first at 28 weeks and this time plan for an elective at 39 weeks however will labour vaginally if he comes before that - what labour essentials will I need? What books do you recommend etc? I’ve never felt a contraction nor reached the third trimester so this is all new! 🤣

The best book I read to prepare for a natural birth during my first pregnancy was Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth. I’d also really recommend the resources from The Positive Birth Company, their hypnobirthing affirmations and meditations were brilliant.

Have a look at tens machine or combs to squeeze for alternative pain relief, peri bottle and spritz for bitz is supposed to be really good too, fans and a flannel as your going to be warm in Labour most likely 🙂

To be fair, it's unlikely that labour will start before 39 weeks unless you have a history of preterm labour. Is there a reason you've chosen 39 weeks as opposed to 41 for an elective? X

@Becka this is for medical reasons due to already having early signs of pre eclampsia and chronic hypertension, my first was an emergency c section at 28 weeks for the same reason x

Oh, yes, definitely don't want to be pushing it then. Will they not induce you if you would prefer a vbac? X

@Becka it’s not really a “ prefer a VBAC” I just sort of said if it happens before the elective then I’ll continue 😅 I really don’t want an induction and due to the surgery from the previous c section I have a lower success rate and they don’t want me to labour for too long x

Totally your choice! It's so important for it to be your choice and one you feel comfortable with, but vbac stats are good, even with induction. I've had 2 spontaneous vba2c and one induced, but mine have all been at term, so not sure how they are for earlier inductions. Good luck x
