Nipple shields

Has anyone used these whilst breastfeeding? I’m due to go in for a planned section in 16 days. This will be my second baby and I was devastated at stopping breastfeeding my first (I lasted exactly 2 weeks). I stopped because despite the help from a lactation consultant, midwife and perseverance, I had horrific cracked nipples that hurt every single time my baby latched. It hurt that much that my toes would curl up and I’d cry the full time she was feeding. The breaking point for me with breastfeeding her was around 3am when she latched and I actually let out a scream because it hurt so much. That was when I sent my partner to the nearest shop for formula because I just couldn’t do it anymore. I’m desperate to feed this baby myself too but I really don’t want the pain I went through the last time. I wondered if nipple shields would maybe help a bit? To add, I had tried the silverette cups but they made no difference for me🥲

Medela Contact Nipple Shields worked well for me!

I had nipple Sheilds to help with baby's latch, I missed the painful part of feeding and I think mine were medala and worked well, they are a bit faffy but you get into a rhythm :)

I started using them in the hospital after I'd had my little boy and I used them for a few weeks on and off. I tried to do most of the feeds with it on and then if I felt brave enough, I would try without the shield. I used lanolin both when I was feeding and inbetween and there's also (really sorry I can't remember the name of it) but like a mesh you can put on too, that was a godsend!
