C section recovery

Is anyone struggling getting in and out of bed or scared that’s their wound will open? I get my dressing off tomorrow but Im scared. Both my feet are swollen and I’m struggling with the pain and having to pick up baby. I’m only 4 days pp so I know it will take time but any tips are appreciated.

I had to get loads of pillows so I was basically sitting up sleeping so I could get in and out bit better x

I got myself a bed rail that elderly use, game changer xx

I did the same as lettitia and made sure to keep up with paracetamol and ibuprofen and have a pillow under your feet in bed as well to help with the swelling there. Try to move around too helps with recovery too, sitting still for too long is the worst thing. I've had 2 c sections and I tried to keep mildly active by moving around the house and things to stop the stiffness which adds to the pain x

I have my Nanas bed rail haha it’s just so hard to get out of bed to get baby from Moses basket and I hate relying on my partner to get out of bed but I just pray for a speedy recovery

Swollen feet are normal (unfortunately) days three to five are typically the worst. At least in my experience with both c sections. I had noticeably worse pain with staples, as opposed to the dissolvable stitches. Getting in and out of bed is always a challenge, it’s best to ease into your side as gently as possible and slowly sit up to get out of bed. Or if possible, sleep in an upright position and just swing your legs off the bed to get out. The feeling that you’re about to burst open is something that never really goes away (I’m 8 months ppl and still have moments like that) . It’s mostly just paranoia and sensitivity. Tips as far as picking up baby. Don’t strain, try to bend your legs rather than bend over if you’re placing them on a changing table etc. And just take it one day at a time. If your incision is bleeding, or leaking any fluids, or turning strange colors that would be a cause for concern.

I slept on a chair for 4 days, however that's not ideal, when I got home, I chose lots of pillows under my legs, to also sleep with as well, and kept feet elevated for the swelling(mine was bad) and the wound opening, I don't think it would open from getting in and out of bed, but I totally understand that worry I felt that too, but I took it slowly and took my time and was able to get out of bed but it took me ages, I really struggled picking up my baby, but I found having everything I needed in front of me on the bed really helped, I kept taking paracetamol which slightly helped the pain a little, I had alot of help from my partner, I know that's not always a option for everyone but that greatly helped

I found showering helped with my recovery.

I had my csection 2 weeks ago. For the first week I was sleeping sitting up with loads of pillows. Getting in and out of bed i couldn't do normally. Had to get my legs over the side and not use my stomach muscles. Had to keep on top of the pain meds. Day 4 was definitely the worst day by far I feel. Now 2 weeks on is can get in and out of bed better but it still pulls on my stitches sometimes.

Am 2weeks today I struggled bad in bed the first week it’s not so bad now my partner had to help me get up n down in bed it was horrible, a lot easier now just make sure u keep on top of ur medication and take each day by day 🩷🩷

For the swollen legs my doctor recommended travel socks- amazing!

I had these on hospital but they swelled even more so 😭

I am 10 days and from day 2 have averaged over 5000 steps a day and haven’t had swollen legs and feet since day 3 and limited pain since day 5

I found these early days very difficult, you’re doing amazing and very quickly you’ll feel much better. Try and be ok with your partner helping, I was in hospital till day 6, so really didn’t walk much at all. But as you can, try and get up and down, shower, get lots of fresh fruit and veg. Also stay on your meds, set a timer. I wore the socks 🧦

I was in hospital till day 3 so first day home. I walk around the house a lot as sitting is uncomfortable, I’m gonna keep up with the meds and ask my partner to put my socks back on thank you xx

I struggled too, to lift myself out of bed, my midwife advised me to knot my towelling robe tie over my bed head and use it to pull my body up. This was a great help 👍🏼

I was terrified of getting my dressings off. I could still feel pain and stinging and I thought it was too early, but then when I saw it, I was shocked at how well it had healed. The stitching had already dissolved and my skin was fused. I was amazed that it only took a week. I'm 10 months pp and I'm even more surprised because my scar is actually starting to disappear! I know that's not the same for everyone, but our bodies heal a lot quicker than you'd think! I had a crappy cold right after my section, and it was horribly painful to try and cough because my gut couldn't take it, or more like my stomach muscles. My stomach muscles eventually got strength back when my body was forcefully throwing up phlegm (TMI, sorryyyy). I was so scared I was just gonna tear open but it held together and I'm still alive haha. Don't worry, the pain will pass. If they gave you tramadol, take one every 4 hours. Brilliant for the pain. And lactose for constipation.

I got a recliner chair towards end of pregnancy and it was a godsend for post c section recovery! I slept in it in the night, and used it for months and months for a SSE of feeding baby in daytime even when was then feeling capable to lie fully in bed.. I tried my bed after coming back from hospital but just could not at all!

I had to put a lot of blankets on the bed to make it seem a tiny bit higher, and I also had to use a lot of pillows so I could sit up more cause it hurt to fully lay down at the time, I was struggling getting in and out of bed as well, so I just took it easy and did it slowly. and I was also scared that my scar would open, so aside from taking it easy and being careful, I also tried not to scratch it so it wouldn't open or anything. I've also been wearing loose clothing so nothing would be tight and touching it. it also helped a lot that my boyfriend did a lot for me when it was hard for me to do stuff, he would cook for me and wash dishes, etc. so I didn't have to get out of bed as much while I was still having trouble with it and in pain. I hope this helps.

Four days is still so early, give yourself some grace! Do you have any proper stockings to combat the swelling?

I was in the hospital a week after my c-section, I was still in bed like 2 days after, I believe it’s called a catheter I still had in from high blood pressure, I had that in for 2-4 days cause I originally had a epi in so I hadn’t walked in like 3 days, when I started moving it was so painful, i remember they had to not like force me out of bed but because they took my catheter out I was forced to get out of bed, i wasn’t feeling better till I got home and had to move for my daughter to take care of her as I was a single mom at the time, so worried about opening my scar if I moved wrong especially in the beginning. I’d just say to walk more, the more I walked around the hospital the better I got, but take it slow, don’t do to much if you feel it’s to much ask for help

I would keep up with your pain medication and if you haven't got any speak to your midwife. Your pain will increase as you move around more. As for getting out of bed I would say just take it easy. Don't rush it and use support. I used our next to me to get up after rolling to my side. I also slept pretty much sat up for the first 2 weeks to help this. I am nearly 4 weeks PP and other than a UTI, I am feeling really good but I have rested lots. Hope this helps ☺️

I found multiple layers helped. I had gym shorts under my pants which helped a lot. Without layers it felt as if my insides were going to fall out. X

I had like no pain. The only time it really hurt was when I got a random coughing fit. Like holding my breath, crying, and scared I might cough even a little again.
